Yenikapı
Yenikapı () is a port and a quarter in Istanbul, Turkey, in the metropolitan district of Fatih on the European side of the Bosphorus, and along the southern shore of the city's historically central peninsula. Yenikapı is notable for the ongoing excavations on its Byzantine port, first discovered in 2004. Yenikapı’s archeological investigations have become one of the largest in Europe, due to the size and number of the shipwrecks found since the initial discovery, and the large number of associated artefacts. The commercial harbor, called the Harbour of Theodosius, in use between the 5th and the 10th centuries, was an alternative to Constantinople's traditional berths situated along the inlet of the Golden Horn. The Yenikapı Square is an artificial piece of land created on the Sea of Marmara, enlarging Yenikapı. Yenikapı Transfer Center
Yenikapı Transfer Center (), referred to as Yenikapı, is an underground transportation complex in Istanbul. It is located in south-central Fatih in the neighborhood of Yenikapı Yenikapı () is a port and a quarter in Istanbul, Turkey, in the metropolitan district of Fatih on the European side of the Bosphorus, and along the southern shore of the city's historically central peninsula. Istanbul Metro
The Istanbul Metro () is a rapid transit railway network that serves the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Apart from the M11 line, which is operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, the system is operated by Metro Istanbul, a public enterprise controlled by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The M2, officially referred to as the M2 Yenikapı–Hacıosman metro line (), is a rapid transit line of the Istanbul Metro. It is colored light green on the maps and route signs. M1 (Istanbul Metro)
Line M1, officially referred to as the M1 Yenikapı–Atatürk Airport/Kirazlı metro line (), also known as the Istanbul Light Metro (), is a rapid transit line of the Istanbul Metro. It is colored red on the maps and route signs. Opened in 1989, it was the first rapid transit line in Istanbul and Turkey and its opening started the revival of mass-transit in Turkish cities. The M1 consists of two train services, M1A and M1B. Both services run on the same line from Yenikapı to Otogar, where the M1B branches off to Kirazlı, while the M1A continues on the original line to Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Yenikapı Railway Station
Yenikapı was an indefinitely closed railway station on the İstanbul-Halkalı Line in the Yenikapı neighborhood of Istanbul, Turkey. The station was built in 1872 by the Oriental Railway which was then taken over by the Turkish State Railways in 1937 and electrified in 1955. The station is situated near the south end of the busy Gazi Mustafa Kemal Paşa Boulevard and one block north of Kennedy St, two major inner-city roadways and is west of Sirkeci Terminal. Due to the rehabilitation of the line between Halkalı and Kazlıçeşme for future Marmaray commuter service, Yenikapı was indefinitely closed on 19 March 2013. On 29 October 2013, the new underground Yenikapı railway station, which makes up a part of the new Yenikapı Transfer Center, was opened along with the trans-Bosphorus Marmaray tunnel. İstanbul-Halkalı Commuter Line
The Istanbul suburban railway, locally referred to as B1 (), was an important rail line in Istanbul, Turkey. It was operated by the Turkish State Railways and was one of Istanbul's two commuter rail lines (the other being the Haydarpaşa suburban). Carrying an average of 22,200 passengers daily, it was the second-busiest commuter railway in Turkey, after the Haydarpaşa suburban. The Istanbul Commuter Railway is a historical line, being the first rail line to be electrified and being the first commuter railway in Turkey. Since it opened on December 4, 1955, the E8000 series have been in operation. In the 1970s, the E14000 series came into service and in 2010 the new EUROTEM built E23000 series began service. Marmaray
Marmaray () is a commuter rail line located in Istanbul, Turkey. The line runs from Halkalı, on the European side, to Gebze, on the Asian side, along the north shore of the Sea of Marmara. Mostly using the right-of-way of two existing commuter rail lines, the Marmaray line linked the two lines via a tunnel under the Bosporus strait, becoming the first standard gauge rail connection between Europe and Asia (all prior connections ran through Russia and used the incompatible Russian broad gauge). The two existing sections of the line were rebuilt and expanded from two tracks to three tracks, to allow for higher capacity with intercity and freight rail. Ethnosport Cultural Festival
The Ethnosport Cultural Festival is a 5-day sport and culture festival held annually. Sporting and cultural activities of the Anatolia, Central Asia and the greater Turkic world, but also Japanese, Middle Eastern and other, are held. For the festival, Yenikapi Square is transformed into a traditional looking Turkic- central Asian village with traditional tents, traditional sports fields and horse areas. 150 horses were involved in the 2018 edition. 13 of the tents are set up by different Turkic countries and communities with a 14th tent for Qatar in the 2018 edition. Traditional crafts and dance are among the workshops given in the tents around the festival grounds. Over 880 athletes participated in the 13 ethnosports in the latest (3rd) edition. Golden Horn
The Golden Horn ( or ) is a major urban waterway and the primary inlet of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey. Bozburun
Bozburun is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Marmaris, Muğla Province, Turkey. Its population is 2,238 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). It is situated on the coast of the peninsula of the same name ( Bozburun Peninsula) which extends in parallel to Datça Peninsula in the south. Bozburun Byzantine Shipwreck
The Bozburun Shipwreck is a Middle Byzantine merchant vessel discovered by Turkish sponge diver Mehmet Askin in 1973 off the Bozburun Peninsula in Turkey, and excavated by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology beginning in 1995.
