Rørvikvågen Wildlife Sanctuary
The Rørvikvågen Wildlife Sanctuary () is located on the west side of Vigra island in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The area received protection in 1988 "to preserve an important wetland area with its habitat, bird life and other wildlife," according to the conservation regulations. The bay is a large shallow inlet with large tidal areas. Many streams empty into the bay, and together with drifting accumulations of seaweed and kelp this creates a basis for plentiful food for wildlife. The inner part of the bay is shielded by a belt of pebbles, where there are ponds and lagoons. The bay is a resting, nesting, and overwintering site for wetland birds. Twenty-one species of birds of regional importance have been observed here, 13 of national importance, and five of international importance. Roald
Roald is a village in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located on the northern part of the island Vigra. Roald is located about north of the city centre of Ålesund. It is connected to the mainland via two undersea tunnels which opened in 1987 (and was extensively upgraded in 2008). Giske Wetlands System
The Giske Wetlands System () is a Ramsar site located in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It consists of six separate protected areas: two nature reserves and four wildlife sanctuaries. One of the nature reserves lies on the island of Giske and the five other areas are located on the island of Vigra in the same municipality. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of Ramsar site, Ramsar sites (wetlands). Vigra (island)
Vigra is an island in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is located north of the islands of Valderøya and Giske, west of the mainland of Haram Municipality, and southwest of the island of Lepsøya (in Haram). Vigra has a road connection to the mainland via the Vigra Fixed Link, a series of tunnels and bridges that connect all the islands of Giske Municipality to the city of Ålesund to the south. The island was formerly part of Vigra Municipality. The island is fairly flat and barren, although most land has been converted to agricultural uses. The highest point is the tall Molnesfjellet on the north end of the island.
