Masarna
Masarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Avesta, Sweden. They last rode in the Elitserien during the 2022 Swedish Speedway season but are currently not racing due to financial problems. They are two times champions of Sweden. History 1937 to 1964 The club was founded in 1937 as the Folkare Motorklubb but their first track at Nordanö (between Jularbo and Krylbo) was built in 1948. The club joined the Swedish second division in 1958 (which was known as the Allsvenskan from 1982). Led by Sören Sjösten, they gained success in 1959 by winning division 2 and the successfully defended the title in 1960. 1965 to 1978 Folkare changed their name to Masarna for the 1965 Swedish speedway season and for the remainder of the 1960s struggled in division 2. They won their first honours 'as Masarna' by winning division 2 again in 1974. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of motorcycle speedway, speedway in Sweden. History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien being introduced. The second tier of the Championship is known as the Allsvenskan (speedway), Allsvenskan. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play-off. Avesta Motorstadion also called the Arena Avesta or Stadion Brovalla is a 12,000 capacity motorcycle speedway track located 10 kilometres south of Krylbo and Avesta. The stadium is on the Swedish national road 70, in a remote area surrounded by Långheden Forest. The stadium hosts the Masarna speedway team that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship and have been champions of Sweden on two occasions. Tony Rickardsson
Jan Tony Sören Rickardsson (born on 17 August 1970) is a Swedish former professional motorcycle speedway rider. He competed in the Speedway World Championships from 1989 to 2006 and won six Speedway World Championship titles in 15 attempts. He earned 43 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. In 2011, Rickardsson was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Career summary Promising talent Rickardsson was born in Avesta, Dalarna County, Sweden. In 1989 he became Swedish team champion with the now defunct Stockholm U team. The next year, he won the Swedish Championship, a title he's won six times since, including three times in a row from 1997 to 1999. Sören Sjösten
Sören Willy Ernfrid Sjösten (12 December 1938 – April 1999) was Swedish motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 76 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Life and career Sjösten was born on 12 December 1938. He won the world pairs championship in 1974 with Anders Michanek and became world team champion three times representing Sweden, in 1962, 1964 and 1970. Sjösten also appeared in six individual World Championship Finals with two bronze medals as best result. Both third places was received after losing race-off heats for silver medal, the first time to Barry Briggs and the second time to Ivan Mauger Sjösten rode for Masarna, Vargarna and Bysarna in the Swedish leagues and for Belle Vue Aces, Wolverhampton Wolves and Bristol Bulldogs in the British League. The 2022 Swedish speedway season was the 2022 season of speedway in Sweden. In March 2022, Vetlanda were declared bankrupt and would not compete during the season. Antonio Lindbäck
Antonio Lindbäck (born 5 May 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden, who competed in the Speedway World Championship and was a member of the Swedish team who won the Speedway World Cup in 2004 and 2015. He earned 17 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Lindbäck made his international debut in 2004 with firstly a wild card ride in the Speedway Grand Prix series but he made a bigger impression in the Speedway World Cup riding for the Swedish team. He became the European Under-19 Champion in 2004 and Scandinavian Under-21 Champion in 2005. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") () is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top eight Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. Before that Allsvenskan was the highest division. The winner of the Elitserien is crowned the Swedish Speedway Team Championship winner. 2024 Clubs History From the start of Swedish league speedway in 1948 until 1981 the highest speedway league in Sweden was called Division 1. In 1982 Elitserien was formed, consisting of only six teams where the top four teams qualified for the playoffs. Getingarna became the first winners after defeating Njudungarna in the finals.
