Kom(m)ödchen
The Kom(m)ödchen is a cabaret stage in Düsseldorf. The Kom(m)ödchen was created in 1947 as a political-literary cabaret by Kay and Lore Lorentz. Other participants in the initial program ''"Positiv dagegen"'', which had its premiere on March 29, 1947, were Werner Vielhaber, Bernd Nesselhut, Hans Walter Clasen, Eduard Marwitz, Iris Fanslau, and Ruth Henrichs. Hanne Wieder was also part of the ensemble in its first year. In 1959 the television transmission of the program was banned for a year. The theater moved to its present location on April 27, 1967, and its stage and props were moved to the new location by guests during the intermission of a performance. In 1983, Lore Lorentz decided to pursue solo appearances and left the Kom(m)ödchen ensemble. Kay Lorentz stayed and continued to build a new ensemble. Lore Lorentz
Lore Lorentz (12 September 1920 – 22 February 1994) was a German Kabarett artist and standup comedian. She was born in Mährisch-Ostrau, Czechoslovakia (today Ostrava in the Czech Republic) as Lore Schirmer. She studied history, German literature and philosophy in Berlin and Vienna. In Berlin she met , who became her husband in 1944. Together they founded the Kabarett Kom(m)ödchen in Düsseldorf in 1947. It was one of the first political cabarets in Allied-occupied Germany after the Second World War. Until 1983 Lore and Kay Lorentz were directors of the Kommödchen and part of the ensemble. Starting in 1976, she taught chanson, song and musical at Folkwang Hochschule. From 1983, she started with solo programs. One of her most famous programs consisted exclusively of texts written by Heinrich Heine; even though he had written them more than a century before Lorentz' program was performed, they all referred to current topics. Harald Schmidt
Harald Franz Schmidt (born 18 August 1957) is a German actor, comedian, television presenter and writer best known as the host of two popular German late-night shows. Early and private life A son of refugees who fled from Sudetenland (now Czech Republic) in 1945, Schmidt spent his youth in Swabian Nürtingen. Due to his strict Catholic upbringing he devoted time to the Roman Catholic church, serving as choirmaster and playing the organ. At the age of 21, Schmidt went to Stuttgart to attend drama school for three years. After that, he gained on-stage experience at Städtische Bühne (Municipal Stage) in Augsburg. His first role was that of the 2nd Mamaluke in Lessing's ''Nathan the Wise''. In 1984, Schmidt became a lyricist for the cabaret ''Kom(m)ödchen'' in Düsseldorf and in 1986, was honoured as "Best Newcomer cabaret artist" and toured through Germany with his own show. Hugo Egon Balder
Hugo Egon Balder (born Egon Hugo Balder; 22 March 1950) is a German television presenter, producer, and comedian. Early life Balder was born in West Berlin to Egon Friedrich Balder (1904–1970) and Gerda Balder (née Schure; 1910–1997). Gerda Balder was Jewish who, together with her mother and her son from her first marriage, survived the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Balder was a founding member of the Krautrock band Birth Control in 1968. Career Balder received acting training at a private acting school in Berlin from 1973 to 1976. Thaddäus Troll
Hans Bayer, known by the pseudonym Thaddäus Troll, (18 March 1914 – 5 July 1980) was a German journalist and writer and one of the most prominent modern poets in the Swabian German dialect. In his later years, he was also an active campaigner for libraries and for support, pension rights, and fair publishing contracts for writers. He was born in Cannstatt, a suburb of Stuttgart, and committed suicide there at the age of 66. The literary award Thaddäus-Troll-Preis is named in his honour. Cabaret
Cabaret is a form of theatrical entertainment featuring music, song, dance, recitation, or drama.
