KRNV-FM is a commercial radio station located in Reno, Nevada, United States, broadcasting on 102.1 FM. KRNV-FM airs a Regional Mexican music format branded as "La Tricolor 102.1". Launched in 1986 as KSXY, the station cycled through adult contemporary and contemporary hit radio formats before finding success with an adult album alternative format whose potential removal spurred listener outcry. It was sold to Sunbelt Communications Company in 1994 and became KRNV-FM, a news-oriented complement to its television station, KRNV. Sunbelt exited radio in 1999, and KRNV has had its present format ever since. The station is currently owned by Entravision Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of Entravision Communications. Its studios are in the unincorporated community of Paradise in Clark County near Harry Reid International Airport, and its transmitter is on the northwest edge of the Las Vegas Valley. Intermountain West Communications Company was an American telecommunications company, formerly owned by James E. Rogers (1938–2014), that remains as the licensee company for a number of local television stations in the United States, operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group and subsidiary companies Howard Stirk Holdings and Cunningham Broadcasting. KKOH (780 kHz, "News Talk 780 KOH") is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Reno, Nevada. KKOH airs a talk radio format and is owned and operated by Cumulus Media. Studios and offices are on East Plumb Lane. It transmits from a three- tower array off Chickadee Drive. KKOH broadcasts at 50,000 watts, the maximum power permitted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for AM stations. Because 780 AM is a clear channel frequency, reserved for Class A WBBM in Chicago, KKOH must use a directional signal after sunset to avoid interfering with WBBM. A single tower is used during the day, allowing it to be heard some distance into California. It provides a strong grade B signal to Sacramento and can be heard as far as the Bay Area under the right conditions.
