Indonesian Screen Awards
The Indonesian Screen Awards is a competitive section held during the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. The section honors achievements in Indonesian cinema across six categories, Best Film, Best Directing, Best Performance, Best Editing, and Best Storytelling. Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival
The Jogja- NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) is an annual film festival held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The festival has partnered with the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema since its inaugural edition in 2006. It aims to introduce Asian cinema to a wider audience and provides a space for arts, culture and tourism. The 17th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival was held from 26 November to 3 December 2022. History Several Indonesian filmmakers, Garin Nugroho, Ifa Isfansyah, Budi Irawanto, Yosep Anggi Noen, Ajish Dibyo, Dyna Herlina and Ismail Basbeth along with NETPAC curator Philip Cheah, initiated the festival. Aruna & Her Palate
''Aruna & Her Palate'' ( id, Aruna & Lidahnya) is an Indonesian drama film based on the novel ''The Birdwoman's Palate'' by Laksmi Pamuntjak. It stars Dian Sastrowardoyo, Nicholas Saputra, Hannah Al Rashid, Oka Antara, and Ayu Azhari. Directed by Edwin, it is the second film produced by Palari Films, this time in collaborations with CJ Entertainment, Phoenix Films, and GoStudio. The story focuses on the friendships and romantic entanglement involving two men and two women all in their 30s with thematic references to local culinary wealth. Dian Sastrowardoyo stars as an epidemiologist tasked to investigate a suspected bird flu outbreak. ''Humba Dreams'' is a 2019 Indonesian drama film written and directed by Riri Riza. It stars JS Khairen and Ully Triani. The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Shanghai International Film Festival. At the 40th Citra Awards, the film received six nominations and won one. Joko Anwar
Joko Anwar (born 3 January 1976) is an Indonesian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, he worked as a journalist and film critic. Anwar first rose to prominence for co-writing Nia Dinata's 2003 hit '' Arisan!'' which won five awards at the 2004 Citra Award. He then made his feature film directorial debut with the romantic comedy '' Joni's Promise'' in 2005, gaining a Best Director nomination at the 2005 Citra Award. ''Gundala'' is a 2019 Indonesian neo-noir superhero film based on the comics character Gundala created by Harya Suraminata (Hasmi) in 1969. The film was co-produced by Screenplay Films and Bumilangit Studios, and distributed by Legacy Pictures. It is the first installment in the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe (BCU). The film is directed and written by Joko Anwar, and stars Abimana Aryasatya as Sancaka/Gundala, alongside Tara Basro, Bront Palarae, Ario Bayu, Cecep Arif Rahman, Rio Dewanto, and Muzakki Ramdhan. The 14th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival was held on 19 to 23 November 2019 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A total of 107 films from 23 countries were screened during the festival. Black comedy fantasy film ''Abracadabra'' opened the festival and it closed with Bradley Liew's ''Hotel Acacia''. Korean drama film ''House of Hummingbird'' won the festival's most prestigious award, Golden Hanoman Award. John de Rantau (born 2 January 1970) is an Indonesian film director. His film '' Denias Senandung Di Atas Awan'' (''Denias, Singing on the Cloud'') was Indonesia's submission to the 80th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, but not nominated. Biography De Rantau was born in Padang, West Sumatra, on 2 January 1970. He finished his studies at the Jakarta Art Institute, then began directing television serials. De Rantau made his featured film debut in 2005 with '' Mencari Madonna'' (''Looking for Madonna''), a film about a Papuan teenager who becomes infected with AIDS and seeks a cure. The story was written by Garin Nugroho, who also produced the film. Teddy Soeriaatmadja (born 7 February 1975) is an Indonesian film director. Born in Japan and educated in Britain, Soeriaatmadja made his film debut in 2000 with the short film ''Culik'' (''Kidnap''); it was followed five years later by ''Banyu Biru'' (''Blue Banyu''), his feature film debut. Since then Soeriaatmadja has directed several films, including two which have garnered him a nomination for Best Director at the Indonesian Film Festival.
