Teddy Soeriaatmadja
Teddy Soeriaatmadja (born 7 February 1975) is an Indonesian film director. Born in Japan and educated in Britain, Soeriaatmadja made his film debut in 2000 with the short film ''Culik'' (''Kidnap''); it was followed five years later by ''Banyu Biru'' (''Blue Banyu''), his feature film debut. Since then Soeriaatmadja has directed several films, including two which have garnered him a nomination for Best Director at the Indonesian Film Festival. Early life Soeriaatmadja was born in Japan on 7 February 1975 to Rhousdy Soeriaatmadja (father) and Siti Syarifah. As a child he enjoyed watching movies at home, such as the ''Star Wars'' and ''James Bond'' franchises; in an interview with the Jakarta-based periodical ''Tabloid Nova'', he recalled watching three to four films a day. The rupiah (symbol: Rp; currency code: IDR) is the official currency of Indonesia. It is issued and controlled by Bank Indonesia. The name "rupiah" is derived from the Sanskrit word for silver, (). ''Maya Awards'' ( id, Piala Maya) is an annual Indonesian film awards initiated in 2012 by Indonesian online film enthusiasts who were active on Twitter. It follows the concept of similar awards, with nominations and awards given to each year's best local productions. The first annual Maya Awards was held on December 15, 2012 in Jakarta. It has been cited by local media outlets as the "Indonesian Golden Globe" with the annual Citra Awards of Indonesian Film Festival being the Indonesian equivalent of Academy Awards. Ayu Utami (born 21 November 1968) is an Indonesian writer who has written novels, short-stories, and articles. '' Saman'' (1998) is widely considered her masterpiece. It was translated into English by Pamela Allen in 2005. By writing about sex and politics, Utami addressed issues formerly forbidden to Indonesian women, a change referred to as sastra wangi. Teguh Karya (born Steve Liem Tjoan Hok; ; 22 September 1937 – 11 December 2001) was an Indonesian film director. Starting his entertainment career in theatre, he made his directorial debut with '' Wadjah Seorang Laki-Laki'', released three years later. He later directed numerous critically acclaimed films, including ''Cinta Pertama'', '' Badai Pasti Berlalu'', and ''November 1828''. In 2001 Karya died from complications from a 1998 stroke.
