''Sultan Agung Mataram 1628'' is a 2018 Indonesian historical film directed by Hanung Bramantyo. The film is about Sultan Agung Hanyakrakusuma (1593–1646), third king of the Mataram Sultanate, who reigned between 1613 and 1646. Production Zainal Darma Abidin researched the background to the movie for four years from 2007 until 2011 in order to create the film. Hanung Bramantyo
Setiawan Hanung Bramantyo (born 1 October 1975) is an Indonesian director known for his films ranging from teen romances to religious dramas. After becoming interested in theatre as a child, Bramantyo made his directorial debut with the 1998 short film ''Tlutur''. He made his feature-length debut in 2004, with '' Brownies''. After making several commercial films, he directed the 2008 religious romance ''Ayat-Ayat Cinta'', which was a critical and commercial success. Since then he has directed several more films with religious themes, as well as two sports-related ones. The Sultanate of Mataram () was the last major independent Javanese kingdom on the island of Java before it was colonised by the Dutch. It was the dominant political force radiating from the interior of Central Java from the late 16th century until the beginning of the 18th century. Batavia Castle ( nl, Kasteel Batavia, ) was a fort located at the mouth of Ciliwung River in Jakarta. Batavia Castle was the administrative center of Dutch East India Company (VOC) in Asia.
