IMOCA 60 Biotherm
Biotherm is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by Guillaume Verdier and constructed by Persico Marine in Italy, launched on 31 August 2022. It is designed for the Vendée Globe 2024, a solo round the world yacht race. Its skipper is the French sailor Paul Meilhat. Design The design is built on Thomas Ruyants yacht LinkedOut with a few changes. It is designed to be very light. Guillaume Verdier
Guillaume Verdier is a French naval architect noted for his designs of high performance sailboats. Life Verdier was born 28 September 1970. From 1990–1993 he studied at MSc in Yacht and Powercraft Design at what is now Southampton Solent University before moving to do a post graduate master at the University of Southampton in Naval Architecture from 1994–1995. On completing his degree and then became a member f Naval Architecture Research Department of the University of Copenhagen developing design tools. Awards In 2016, the Solent University, his alma mater, awarded him with an honorary doctorate of engineering degree. IMOCA 60
The IMOCA ("Open 60"), is a 60ft development class monohull sailing yacht administered by the International Monohull Open Classes Association, International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). The class pinnacle event are single-handed sailing, single or two person ocean races, such as the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe and this has been intimately linked to design development within the class. Class description This class is of "open" design, this means the boat is measurement controlled and therefore designers have freedom within the rules. 2024–2025 Vendée Globe
The 2024–2025 Vendée Globe is a non-stop Around the world sailing record, round the world Yacht racing, yacht race for IMOCA 60 class yachts crewed by only one person. It will be the tenth edition of the race, and will start and finish in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France. The race is scheduled to begin on 10 November 2024. Qualification The race organisers have published the initial notice of race allowing a record entry of 40 boats to compete. The rules now prohibit older IMOCA 60 from competing with 2008 generation boats being the oldest allowed to compete. The 13 first new boat skipper combinations starting two of five solo races (one in 2022 or 2023 and one in 2024) qualification races and finishing one of them will be selected automatically. The first around the world sailing record for circumnavigation of the world was Juan Sebastián Elcano and the remaining members of Ferdinand Magellan's crew who completed their journey in 1522. The first solo record was set by Joshua Slocum in the ''Spray'' (1898). The Route du Rhum is a single person transatlantic race the 2022 race was the 12th edition and had six classes with 138 boats taking part. The events status as a qualification for event for the Vendee Globe lead to the largest most competitive fleet of IMOCA 60 class yachts gathered todate. Mariana Lobato (born 23 December 1987) is a Portuguese paramedic and competitive sailor. She competed at the 2012 Olympics and she was a member of Támara Echegoyen's winning crew in the 2013 ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship. She has competed in transatlantic sailing races. Life Lobato was born in Lisbon in 1987. Her family were in to the sport of sailing and by the age of eight she was on a boat. She used an Optimist dinghy and she competed in the under 16 category before she moved on to larger boats. Match racing became her speciality but she had sailed on the Olympic sailing classes of 470 dinghies, 49erFX, and Nacra 17.
