2024–2025 Vendée Globe
The 2024–2025 Vendée Globe is a non-stop Around the world sailing record, round the world Yacht racing, yacht race for IMOCA 60 class yachts crewed by only one person. It is the tenth edition of the race; it started (on 10 November 2024), and will finish, in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France. Results Qualification The race organisers have published the initial notice of race allowing a record entry of 40 boats to compete. The rules now prohibit older IMOCA 60 from competing, with 2008 generation boats being the oldest allowed to compete. The 13 first, new-boat skipper combinations starting two of five solo races (one in 2022 or 2023 and one in 2024) qualification races and finishing one of them will be selected automatically. Les Sables-d'Olonne
Les Sables-d'Olonne (; French meaning: "The Sands of Olonne"; Poitevin: ''Lés Sablles d'Oloune'') is a seaside resort and port on the Atlantic coast of western France. A subprefecture of the department of Vendée, Pays de la Loire, it has the administrative level of commune. On 1 January 2019, the municipalities of Olonne-sur-Mer, Château-d'Olonne and Les Sables-d'Olonne merged, retaining the latter name. Location and geography Les Sables-d'Olonne is a seaside town in western France, on the Atlantic Ocean. It is situated on the coast between La Rochelle and Saint-Nazaire, near the coastal terminus of the A87 that connects it and nearby communities to La Roche-sur-Yon, Cholet, and Angers to the northeast. The nearest major metropolitan center of France, to Les Sables-d'Olonne, is Nantes, to the north (approximately 105 km, by road). Biotherm is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by Guillaume Verdier and constructed by Persico Marine in Italy, launched on 31 August 2022. The boat was launched on 20 August 2018 after being assembled by CDK Technologies based in Port La Forêt, Lorient in France. Thomas Ruyant (born 24 May 1981) is a French sailor who was born in Dunkirk in the Nord region. He is an offshore sailor and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe IMOCA 60 onboard LinkedOut, named after a French employment charity. Ruyant started the Vendée Globe 2020 on 8 November 2020 and crossed the finish line on 28 January 2021 at 05:42:01 UTC+1 in 4th place with a time of 80d 15h 22m 01s. For People is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by Antoine Koch in cooperation with Finot-Conq, constructed by CDK Technologies in France, and launched on 16 March 2023. It is designed for the Vendée Globe 2024, a non-stop round-the-world solo race. It is skippered by the French offshore sailor Thomas Ruyant. In 2025 it was sold to be skippered by Ambrogio Beccaria. Design It is a sister ship to Paprec Arkéa and, similarly to that yacht, features a fully enclosed cockpit with a shock absorbing seat. The hull is optimized for the downwind conditions of the southern ocean, but has a slim design.
