IMOCA 60 For People
For People is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by Antoine Koch in cooperation with Finot-Conq, constructed by CDK Technologies in France, and launched on 16 March 2023. It is designed for the Vendée Globe 2024, a non-stop round-the-world solo race. It is skippered by the French offshore sailor Thomas Ruyant. In 2025 it was sold to be skippered by Ambrogio Beccaria. Design It is a sister ship to Paprec Arkéa and, similarly to that yacht, features a fully enclosed cockpit with a shock absorbing seat. The hull is optimized for the downwind conditions of the southern ocean, but has a slim design. IMOCA 60
The IMOCA ("Open 60") is a 60ft (18.3 m) development class monohull sailing yacht governed by the International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). The class pinnacle event are single or two person ocean races, such as the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe and this has been intimately linked to design development within the class. The class is recognised by World Sailing. Class description The class is of "open" design: the boat is measurement controlled, and designers have freedom within the rules. Several parts including the mast, boom and the canting keel ram and fin are one design for safety reasons. After several severe incidents in the early years of the class a self righting capability was introduced. Each boat must be able to self-right itself at any time. The Retour à la base, formerly Transat B to B (short for "back to Brittany") is a transatlantic single-handed yacht race exclusive to IMOCA 60 yachts, which first took place in 2007. It was introduced as a return race from destination of the Transat Jacques Vabre to Brittany, Metropolitan France, home to most IMOCA teams. Since its introduction it was held every four years in the year before the Vendée Globe except 2019. A crewed edition was planned for 2021 but was cancelled later.
