International Monohull Open Classes Association
The International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA) is the governing body of the IMOCA class. Its main task is to design the class regulations for the ocean racing yachts IMOCA 50 and IMOCA 60 and organising regattas and single-handed circum-navigation regattas. It was established in 1991. IMOCA has been a member of the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) since 1999. IMOCA organizes the Ocean Masters World Championship and is the sanctioning authority for the Barcelona World Race. Ocean Racing Multihull Association
ORMA 60 is a class of sailing trimarans administered by the Ocean Racing Multihull Association (ORMA) that created in 1996 by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) within the sport of sailing. The boats were built to a box rule that permitted 60 feet length and beam and a 100-foot mast. The class was active from 1996 to 2007. The boats built to the class rule were some of the fastest ocean going sailboats ever built, but suffered many failures at sea, including capsize. In one famous race, 2002 Route du Rhum, only 3 of 18 starters managed to complete the race. This eventually led to the abandonment of the class by sponsors. As a result, it is no longer actively managed by the ISAF. The one design Mod70 was created to continue the heritage of large blue water racing multihulls, while addressing the issues that had arisen with the ORMA 60 designs. The Route du Rhum is a single person transatlantic race the 2022 race was the 12th edition and had six classes with 138 boats taking part. The events status as a qualification for event for the Vendee Globe lead to the largest most competitive fleet of IMOCA 60 class yachts gathered todate. In his first attempt at the race Charles Caudrelier took line honours in a new race record time on the Maxi Multihull Edmond de Rothschild in six days, 19 hours and 47 minutes.
