Germany National Speedway Team
The Germany national speedway team are one of the teams that compete in international team motorcycle speedway. History The West Germany national speedway team competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup in 1960 and the following year in 1961, the East Germany national speedway team competed in the World Cup for the first time. Traditionally the West German team were much stronger and produced the majority of the leading riders from the German nations. West Germany and East Germany became the Germany national speedway team in 1991, following the events that led to the German reunification between 1989 and 1991. The German team reached the final of the World Team Cup in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998 but failed to make any impact over the next two decades, until they competed in consecutive finals of the Speedway of Nations in 2018 and 2019. 2018 Speedway Of Nations
The 2018 Speedway of Nations was the first FIM Speedway of Nations. The competition consisted of two race-off events and a two-legged final. The event was won by Russia, who beat Great Britain in the Grand Final. It replaced the Speedway World Cup. Format The 2018 Speedway of Nations was a pairs event, with each nation being represented by two senior riders and one rider under the age of 21. Each meeting was staged over 21 heats with the scores from each rider added together to give a total for each nation. The two race-off events consisted of seven teams, with three qualifying for the final. The final, which included hosts Poland, was staged over two legs with the scores from each added together. The top scoring nation went straight through to the Grand Final, while the second and third placed nations competed in the final qualifier for the chance to reach the Grand Final. The Vojens Speedway Center is a Motorcycle speedway track located in Vojens, Denmark. The track has been part-owned since its opening by Denmark's first three time Speedway World Champion Ole Olsen. Track The Speedway Center is a long track which opened in September 1975 and has a spectator capacity of approximately 15,000. Since its opening it has hosted numerous Danish national and international meetings including hosting the Danish Championship in 1977, 1979 and 1981. World Championship meetings The Speedway Center hosted the Speedway World Final in 1988 and again in 1994, the final time the World Championship was held in the single meeting format before the advent of the Speedway Grand Prix series in 1995. The Czech Republic national speedway team is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History As Czechoslovakia The Czechoslovakia speedway team (which consisted predominantly of Czech Republic riders) competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup during the 1960 Speedway World Team Cup and won the bronze medal after finishing third in the final. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1960 until their final World Cup in 1992. They reached the final on fourteen occasions, winning the silver medal in 1963 and two more bronze medals in 1977 and 1979. In addition to the four medals at the World Cup, the team won a bronze medal at the Speedway World Pairs Championship. The 1997 Speedway World Team Cup was the 38th edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final was held at the Stadion Żużlowy Centrum in Piła, Poland on 13 September. Denmark won their 11th title and Hans Nielsen won his 11th and final gold medal. Robert Kessler (born 5 April 1973 in Neuwied, West Germany) is a former motorcycle speedway rider, from Germany. He earned 5 international caps for the German national speedway team. Career Kessler represented Germany at the Speedway World Team Cup. He was the German under-21 champion in 1992 and 1993. He started his British league career with Sheffield Tigers in 1994. He spent five seasons with them from 1994 to 2001, although in between he had a season with King's Lynn Stars. He then moved to Hull Vikings in 2002 before switching to Stoke Potters in 2003. The Hungary national speedway team are one of the teams that compete in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Hungarian speedway team first competed in the Speedway World Team Cup during the 1966 Speedway World Team Cup, finishing second in the Continental semi final round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were ever present from 1966 to 2000. However, they were one of the weaker nations and failed to reach a final for the first thirty years of the competition. The team experienced a better record in the World Pairs Championship, reaching finals in 1972, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1993. The team's greatest success came in the 1990 final, when they won a shock bronze medal. It was not until 1996 that they appeared in their first World Team Cup final and then the following years in 1997 and 1998, repeated the achievement.
