The 1998 Speedway World Team Cup was the 39th edition of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place on 11 September at the Vojens Speedway Center in Denmark. The winners were the United States national speedway team, United States team who claimed their fifth title. The International Motorcycling Federation (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) or (FIM) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 123 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six continental unions. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970, in Whittier, California) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions and earned 39 caps for the United States national speedway team. Hancock appeared in all but one of the Grand Prix series, since its creation in 1995 until 2019. Oleg Anatolyevich Kurguskin (; born 11 April 1966, in Elista) is a Russian motorcycle speedway rider who was a member of Russia team at 2001 and 2005 Speedway World Cup. Career Kurguskin won the silver medal at the Soviet Union championship in 1989 and 1991. He was also the four-times Russian champion in 1994, 1999, 2003 and 2004. Kurguskin was a stand out rider when he was part of the first ever Russian team (still under the Soviet Union flag) to tour Australia in 1990/91. Roman Alexandrovich Povazhny (Russian: ''Поважный, Роман Александрович''; born October 23, 1976) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider and a former champion of Russia. He earned 21 caps for the Russia national speedway team. Career Povazhny won the Russian national championship in 2001. Róbert Nagy (speedway Rider)
Róbert Nagy (born 28 April 1967) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Hungary. He earned 13 caps for the Hungary national speedway team. Career Nagy was a member of Hungary national speedway team, Hungary's national team. He is also a four times Speedway in Hungary, Hungarian national champion. In Britain, he rode for various clubs from 1992 to 1996. During the 1992 British League Division Two season, he won the British League Division Two Riders Championship, as a Glasgow rider. The final was held on 19 September at Brandon Stadium and Nagy defeated Mick Poole (speedway rider), Mick Poole in the run off for the title after both riders finished on 13 points. Sándor Tihanyi
Sándor Tihanyi (born 28 April 1963) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Hungary. He was a member of Hungary's national team during the 1980s and 1990s. Career Tihanyi qualified for the 1988 World Final in Vojens, Denmark, where he finished 15th with three points. He was also a reserve for the 1990 World Final at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England, but did not ride in the final. His greatest achievement was in 1990, when he teamed up with Zoltán Adorján to secure a first medal at world level for Hungary when they won a bronze at the 1990 Speedway World Pairs Championship in Germany.
