Communication Arts Guild
Communication Arts Guild or CAG is an organisation dedicated to the Indian advertising industry. Located in Mumbai, this is the only organisation which has the complete record of the growth of Indian Advertising since Independence Day (India), Independence. History CAG was founded in 1948. It created its own Constitution, in 1950, registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The vision was to create a networking platform within the fraternity of Visual Communication Industry. Cag awards CAG distributes a number of awards, including: the Cub Trophies for communication arts and design students; scholarships for pre-final year Art students; the Guru of the Year award; and the CAG Hall of Fame. Mumbai ( ; ), also known as Bombay ( ; its official name until 1995), is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Alyque Padamsee
Alyque Padamsee (5 March 1928 – 17 November 2018) was an Indian theatre personality and ad film maker. He played Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the 1982 British period film ''Gandhi''. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 2000. Besides being involved in Indian theatre as an actor and producer, Padamsee was an advertising professional who once headed the advertising company Lintas Bombay. Early life and education Padamsee was born in Bombay in 1928 into a traditional Ismaili Khoja Muslim family hailing from the Kutch region of Gujarat. Gerson Da Cunha
Gerson da Cunha (16 June 1929 – 7 January 2022) was an Indian advertising professional who was also a stage and film actor, social worker, and author. He headed the Indian market communications agency Lintas and also worked for J. Walter Thompson, and Hindustan Lever in a career spanning 25 years. He worked with UNICEF in Brazil and was awarded the Order of Rio Branco by the government of Brazil in 2018 for his services to that country. Ram Mohan
Ram Mohan (26 August 1931 – 11 October 2019) was an Indian animator, title designer and design educator, who was also known as father of Indian Animation and was a veteran in the Indian animation industry, who started his career at the Cartoon Films Unit, Films Division of India, Government of India in 1956. He was chairman and chief creative officer at Graphiti Multimedia, a Mumbai-based animation company which was established in 1995, and later he also established the Graphiti School of Animation in 2006. He had won the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Animation Film twice, ''You Said It'' (1972) and ''Fire Games'' (1983). Brendan Pereira
Brendan Conan Pereira (23 November 1928 – 21 July 2024), also known as BCP, was an Indian advertising Creative Director. Background Brendan Pereira was born on 23 November 1928, to Albert and Louise Pereira. He attended St. Isabel's and St. Mary's High School, both in Mazagaon, Mumbai. In 1945, he enrolled in Sir J.J. Ivan Arthur is former national creative director of JWT India, one of the leading advertising agencies in the world. He spent 38 years in advertising before retiring in 2002. He is also a trustee of Asian Institute of Communication and Research, better known as AICAR Business School near Matheran. Career He started his career as a recording artist. R. K. Joshi or Raghunath Krishna Joshi (1936, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India – 5 February 2008, in San Francisco, USA) was an academic type designer and calligrapher. He designed the core Indian fonts used in Microsoft Windows. Early life Joshi was born into a middle class Indian family. He was brought up in the town of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where he developed an interest in alphabets, their shapes, styles and design. In 1952, he decided to study art at Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. During this time he found a scarcity of typefaces in Indian languages. Arun Kolatkar
Arun Balkrishna Kolatkar (1 November 1932 – 25 September 2004) was an Indian poet who wrote in both Marathi and English. His poems are known for expressing the humour in everyday life. Kolatkar is the only Indian poet other than Kabir to be featured on the World Classics titles of New York Review of Books. His first collection of English poetry, '' Jejuri,'' won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize in 1977. His Marathi verse collection ''Bhijki Vahi'' won a Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005. An anthology of his works, ''Collected Poems in English'', edited by Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, was published in Britain by Bloodaxe Books in 2010. Trained as an artist from the J. J. Frank Simoes
Frank Simoes (1937–2002) was an Indian writer and pioneering advertising executive who was the first Indian to set up his own advertising agency. He initially worked for advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather before setting up his own company; his campaigns included work for Only Vimal, Raymonds, Taj Hotels, Liberty Shirts, and BOAC. He quit advertising while still successful in the 1970s. He sold his firm, and moved to Goa to become a writer. Mitter Bedi
Mitter Bedi (26 January 1926 – 11 March 1985) was an Indian photographer, specialising in industrial photography, and a teacher. Prior to his interest in the field there was little photographic use in advertising and his images have become classic icons. He was a recipient of several awards and he had his own photographic agency in Bombay (now Mumbai), which became well known in Asia.
