Azov Movement
The 12th Special Forces Brigade "Azov" () is a formation of the National Guard of Ukraine formerly based in Mariupol, in the coastal region of the Sea of Azov, from which it derives its name. It was founded in May 2014 as the Azov Battalion (), a Ukrainian volunteer battalions, self-funded volunteer militia under the command of Andriy Biletsky, to fight Russian people's militias in Ukraine, Russian-backed forces in the War in Donbas (2014–2022), Donbas War. It was formally incorporated into the National Guard on 11 November 2014, and redesignated Special Operations Detachment "Azov", also known as the Azov Regiment. In February 2023, the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs (Ukraine), Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that Azov was to be expanded as a brigade of the new Offensive Guard (Ukraine), Offensive Guard. Special Tasks Patrol Police
The Special Police Forces () is a Ukrainian volunteer corps of law enforcement units, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. History In April 2014, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov issued an order to create battalions of special purpose within the Ministry of Internal Affairs structure. Their goal was to protect public order and important facilities across Ukraine, but all of these units were eventually sent to the east to counter Russian aggression. After the reformation of National Police in 2015, the units were reformed as Special Task Patrol Police units. During the ongoing war in Donbas, the forces of the Special Tasks Patrol Police have fought against pro-Russian separatists as a paramilitary force. Eastern Ukraine Campaign
Ukraine's easternmost oblasts, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv, have been the site of an ongoing theatre of operation since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The battle of Donbas was a major offensive in the eastern theatre that took place in mid-2022. By the culmination of the offensive in July 2022, Russian forces and their separatist allies had captured the cities of Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Rubizhne and Izium. However, in early September, Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive in the east, which recaptured the cities of Izium, Balakliia, Kupiansk, Sviatohirsk and the strategic city of Lyman, Ukraine, Lyman. Vadym Anatoliyovych Troyan (; born 12 September 1979) is a Ukrainian former government official and military leader. He was the chief of police for the Kyiv Oblast from 2014 to 2021, and formerly the deputy commander of the Azov Battalion with the rank of colonel. Andriy Yevheniiovych Biletsky ( ; born 5 August 1979) is a Ukrainian far-right politician. He is the leader of political party National Corps.
