Pokrovsk Offensive
The Pokrovsk offensive is an ongoing military operation in the Russian invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Armed Forces with the goal of capturing the strategic city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast. Fighting began with the Russian advance into and subsequent capture of Prohres on 18 and 19 July, a turning point for the Russian offensive northwest of Avdiivka following the latter's capture in February 2024, and has taken place in numerous settlements east of Pokrovsk in Pokrovsk Raion. Background Following the Russian success in the battle of Avdiivka, their forces significantly advanced north and northwest of the city to form a salient in the succeeding months. Eastern Ukraine Campaign
The eastern Ukraine campaign is a theatre of operation in the ongoing 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine that affects three provinces ( oblasts) in the eastern part of Ukraine: Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast (collectively the Donbas) and Kharkiv Oblast. The invasion is an escalation or intensification of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had been waged between Ukraine and Russian proxies since 2014. The battle of Donbas is a major offensive in this theatre of operations and is considered to be the second strategic phase of the invasion. By July 2022, Russian forces and their separatist allies had captured the cities of Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Rubizhne and Izium. The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura" () is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2022. Name In Slavic mythology, the name is interpreted as the daughter of Perun, the god of thunder and lightning along with war and warriors. History The unit was formed during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
