Aisha Adams
Aisha Annie Mambo-Adams is a Malawian politician who in 2014 was elected to represent the Mangothi Nkungulu constituency. She is the only elected Muslim and she is a member of the United Democratic Front (Malawi), United Democratic Front party. Life Adams was born in about 1974 and she was raised in Chimwala in Mangochi. After secondary education she became a teacher for six years. She was known as Achakongwe when she was a presenter on Radio Islam. Her popularity made it possible to stand for parliament in a constituency that is 95% Muslim. She encourages Muslim women to cover their heads and to not just do so on Muslim occasions. Adams became a member of the United Democratic Front (Malawi), United Democratic Front party. In 2014 she brought the election process in the Mangothi Nkungulu constituency, where she was a candidate, to a standstill using a court injunction. United Democratic Front (Malawi)
The United Democratic Front is a political party in Malawi founded in 1992 by Bakili Muluzi. It claims to be a liberal party in Malawi and is mainly strong in the southern region populated by ethnic Yao. Bakili Muluzi was President of Malawi from 1994 to 2004. Malawi
Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in Southeastern Africa. Atupele Muluzi (born 6 August 1978) is a Malawian politician, businessman and was a Member of Parliament for Machinga North East constituency from 2004 until May 27, 2019. He is also the President of the United Democratic Front and was a presidential candidate during the 2019 election. He was a running mate in the 2020 presidential elections, on a coalition ticket with incumbent President Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party. Muluzi was Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining from 2014 to 2015 and the only opposition member to serve in the Mutharika administration. Abida Mia
Abida Sidik Mia is a Malawian politician. She is the Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi in Chikwawa District and she is a minister of water and sanitation. Halima Daud
Halima Alima Daud is a Malawian politician and deputy health minister. Life Daud was born in southern Malawi in Nsanje. She is based in Dowa and she was first elected to parliament in 2009 when 21% of the MPs were women. She lost her Dowa South East seat in 2014. She was not one of 45 women elected that year to a parliament with 193 seats. There had been a campaign to get 50% but this was unsuccessful She stood for re-election in the 2019 Malawian general election for her former parliamentary seat with the support of the Malawi Congress Party. Five MPs in Dowa failed to be re-elected but Daud and fellow former deputy minister Abel Kayembe both won back their seats. Esther Majaza
Esther (; ), originally Hadassah (; ), is the eponymous heroine of the Book of Esther in the Hebrew Bible. According to the biblical narrative, which is set in the Achaemenid Empire, the Persian king Ahasuerus falls in love with Esther and marries her. His grand vizier Haman is offended by Esther's cousin and guardian Mordecai because of his refusal to bow before him; bowing in front of another person was a prominent gesture of respect in Persian society, but deemed unacceptable by Mordecai, who believes that a Jew should only express submissiveness to God. The Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus is a cross party group of women who are members of Malawi's National Assembly. It was formed in 1996 when there were nine women members of parliament who wanted to work together across parties whenever there was an issue that was related to women. Roseby Gadama
Roseby Gadama became the Malawian member of parliament for Zomda Thondwe in 2019. She is the chair of the Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus and she sits on the Public Accounts Committee. Life Gadama was born in Mulanje in eastern Malawi. She became the member of parliament for the Zomba Thondwe Constituency in the 2019 Malawian general election. She wanted to represent the Democratic Progressive Party,but she stood as an independent after protests involving tear gasand gunfire during the primaries.
