Halima Daud
Halima Alima Daud is a Malawian politician and deputy health minister. Life Daud was born in southern Malawi in Nsanje. She is based in Dowa and she was first elected to parliament in 2009 when 21% of the MPs were women. She lost her Dowa South East seat in 2014. She was not one of 45 women elected that year to a parliament with 193 seats. There had been a campaign to get 50% but this was unsuccessful She stood for re-election in the 2019 Malawian general election for her former parliamentary seat with the support of the Malawi Congress Party. Five MPs in Dowa failed to be re-elected but Daud and fellow former deputy minister Abel Kayembe both won back their seats. She was one of several Muslim women parliamentarians which included Abida Mia, Aisha Adams, Mwalone Jangiya and Esther Majaza. Malawi Congress Party
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is a political party in Malawi. It was formed as a successor party to the banned Nyasaland African Congress when the country, then known as Nyasaland, was under British rule. The MCP, under Hastings Banda, presided over Malawian independence in 1964, and from 1966 to 1993 was the only legal party in the country. It has continued to be a major force in the country since losing power. Following a court order to have a rerun of the 2019 Presidential election, a fresh Presidential election was held on 23 June 2020 which resulted in the MCP and its Tonse Alliance partners receiving approximately 60% of the national vote ushering the party back into government. Chrissie Kanyasho is a Malawian politician who is a member of the National Assembly who represents Nkhata bay North. She was the deputy minister of health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Life Kanyasho was born in Nkhata Bay. She was a member of the United Transformation Movement and she represents the constituency of Nkhata bay North. She was first elected in the May 2019 elections. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda is a Malawi, Malawian politician. In 2020 she became Minister of Health in Malawi. Early life Khumbize Chiponda is the sister of Ken Kandodo, also a politician, and related to Malawi's founding president, Hastings Banda. Before entering politics she trained as a pharmacist, and worked in the Ministry of Health as a biochemist. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera (born 5 April 1955) is a Malawian politician and theologian who has served as President of Malawi since June 2020.
