Abida Mia
Abida Sidik Mia is a Malawian politician. She is the Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi in Chikwawa District and she is a minister of water and sanitation. Political career She was elected to the Parliament of Malawi in the 2019 general election. Other Muslim women parliamentarians include Aisha Adams, Halima Daud, Mwalone Jangiya and Esther Majaza. Mia was appointed Deputy Minister for Lands in 2020. In 2022, she was made Water and Sanitation Minister. She was made the second deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party in September 2024. In December 2024 she was in her Chikwawa Nkombezi constituency encouraging voters to register ready for the 2025 elections. She also gave out spare parts to allow boreholes to be better maintained. Sidik Mia (4 March 1965 – 12 January 2021) was a Malawian businessman, politician, and Member of Parliament who held various ministerial positions within the Cabinet of Malawi beginning in 2004, serving as Minister of Transport and Public Works since June 2020. He was the Deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) until his death due to COVID-19 related illness on 12 January 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Malawi. Roseby Gadama became the Malawian member of parliament for Zomda Thondwe in 2019. She is the chair of the Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus and she sits on the Public Accounts Committee. Life Gadama was born in Mulanje in eastern Malawi. She became the member of parliament for the Zomba Thondwe Constituency in the 2019 Malawian general election. She wanted to represent the Democratic Progressive Party,but she stood as an independent after protests involving tear gasand gunfire during the primaries. Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in Southeastern Africa. The Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus is a cross party group of women who are members of Malawi's National Assembly. It was formed in 1996 when there were nine women members of parliament who wanted to work together across parties whenever there was an issue that was related to women. History In 1994, Malawi had a new constitution and democracy. The constitution was claimed to be one of the most "gender-sensitive" in the world. In 1996, there were nine women among the 177 members of Malawi's parliament. The idea of a women's caucus was put forward and the nine politicians put aside their party allegiances to work together.
