2023 Sofia Mayoral Election
The 2023 Sofia mayoral election was held on 29 October 2023, during the 2023 Bulgarian local elections, to elect the next List of mayors of Sofia, mayor of Sofia. Background For the past 14 years (since 2009), the mayor of Sofia has been Yordanka Fandakova, from the party GERB. Yordanka Fandakova, Fandakova served four terms, including three full terms, as mayor of Sofia, becoming the first woman to serve in the position and the longest serving mayor of Sofia. A percentage point or percent point is the unit (measurement), unit for the difference (mathematics), arithmetic difference between two percentages. IMRO - Bulgarian National Movement
The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO; ; ), was a secret revolutionary society founded in the Ottoman territories in Europe, that operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in 1893 in Salonica, it initially aimed to gain autonomy for Macedonia and Adrianople regions, autonomy for Macedonia and Adrianople regions in the Ottoman Empire, however, it later became an agent serving Kingdom of Bulgaria, Bulgarian interests in Balkan politics. IMRO modeled itself after the earlier Bulgarian Internal Revolutionary Organization of Vasil Levski and accepted its motto "Freedom or Death" (Свобода или смърть). The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), also known as The Centenarian, is a centre-left, social democratic political party in Bulgaria. 2019 Bulgarian Local Elections
The first round of the local elections for mayors and municipal councilors on both the local and provincial level in Bulgaria were held on 27 October 2019. The second round of the election took place on 3 November, as per the decree signed by the President of Bulgaria. 6,227,901 Bulgarians were included on the voter lists and were eligible to vote, a 136,000 voter reduction compared to the 2015 local elections. Following the final results, the results on the provincial level showed that the ruling GERB party had lost 6 mayorships in comparison to the previous election. The Socialist Party gained four, the Bulgaria for Citizens movement gained one, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms kept their previous result by obtaining one each, and two independent candidates were elected. Graf Ignatiev Street (), colloquially called Graf's Street (, ''ulitsa Grafa'' "Count's Street") or simply Grafa is the central street in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
