We Continue the Change (; PP), sometimes translated as Change Continues, is a Centrism, centrist, anti-corruption List of political parties in Bulgaria, political party and formerly an electoral alliance in Bulgaria led by Kiril Petkov and Asen Vasilev. It was founded ahead of the 2021 Bulgarian general election, November 2021 election. The party was officially registered on 15 April. Kiril Petkov
Kiril Petkov Petkov (; born 17 April 1980) is a Bulgarian politician, economist, and entrepreneur, who served as Prime Minister of Bulgaria from December 2021 to August 2022. He is the co-leader of We Continue the Change, a political party he co-founded with Asen Vasilev. Petkov was born in Plovdiv, but grew up in Sofia and was educated by his parents, who were both teachers. He grew up with grandparents from different parts of his family. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University. Petkov and Vasilev stated that they would start their own political project that would be an alternative anti-corruption party which could be seen as a "uniting force" between the other parties. Democratic Bulgaria
Democratic Bulgaria (, ДБ, ''Demokratichna Balgariya, DB'') is a political alliance in Bulgaria. Founded on 12 April 2018 as an electoral alliance between three political parties – DaB, DSB and the Green Movement, it merged into PP-DB in 2023. In April 2024 the Green Movement left PP-DB. DaB and DSB maintain close relations and brand themselves as "Democratic Bulgaria". There Is Such a Peoplesometimes translated as There Is Such A Nation (, ITN) is a populist political party in Bulgaria established by Bulgarian singer, TV host, and politician Slavi Trifonov. Self-described as a "political product", the party is named after one of Trifonov's own musical albums. April 2021 Bulgarian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria on 4 April 2021 at the end of the term of the National Assembly (Bulgaria), National Assembly 2017 Bulgarian parliamentary election, elected in 2017. Parties in the governing coalition led by Boyko Borisov lost seats and no party leader was able to form a coalition government within the time limit. This triggered the July 2021 Bulgarian parliamentary election. 2020–2021 Bulgarian Protests
The 2020–2021 Bulgarian protests sometimes called the Revolution of Dignity were a series of demonstrations that were being held in Bulgaria, mainly in the capital Sofia, as well as cities with a large Bulgarian diaspora, such as Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin and London. The protest movement was the culmination of long-standing grievances against endemic corruption and state capture, particularly associated with prime minister Boyko Borisov's governments, in power since 2016. Spontaneous demonstrations were triggered by the 9 July 2020 raid on the Presidency of Bulgaria by police and prosecutors in what was perceived as an attack against President Rumen Radev, a vocal critic of Borisov's rule. Volya Movement
Volya Movement () is a right-wing populist political party in Bulgaria. Before 2016, it was known variously as Today and Liberal Alliance. The party was established by Bulgarian businessman Veselin Mareshki, ostensibly on principles of anti-corruption and anti-elitism. History Volya was originally founded by Veselin Mareshki on July 15, 2007, under the name Liberal Alliance. The United Patriots (OP; ) was a nationalist electoral alliance in Bulgaria formed by three political parties: VMRO, Attack (until 25 July 2019), and the National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria (NFSB). GERB
GERB, an acronym for Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (), is a conservative center-right populist political party which was the ruling party of Bulgaria during the periods between 2009–2013, 2014-2021, 2025-present and was supporting the Denkov government between 2023-2024. History GERB is headed by former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, the former mayor of Sofia, former member of the National Movement Simeon II and former personal guard of Todor Zhivkov in the 1990s. Third Borisov Government
The ninety-sixth Cabinet of Bulgaria took office on May 4, 2017. It was a coalition government that was chaired by Boyko Borisov. The government was formed after the Borisov's party, GERB, won the 2017 parliamentary election. However, GERB won only 95 out of 240 seats in the National Assembly and therefore needed to form a coalition in order to govern. On 16 April 2021, the 45th National Assembly voted for his resignation with 156 votes in favor, 75 against and 9 abstentions. The government resigned and continued to serve until a new cabinet was appointed. On 12 May 2021, the Government was dissolved. Denkov Government
The Denkov Government was the 102nd cabinet of Bulgaria. It was approved by the parliament on 6 June 2023, and was a majority coalition of GERB and PP–DB. Per the coalition agreement, it was set to be a rotation government, where PP–DB's Nikolai Denkov would start with the premiership, with GERB's Mariya Gabriel serving as deputy prime minister, and after nine months, the two would switch positions. Per the agreement, Denkov and his cabinet resigned on 6 March 2024 in preparation for Gabriel to form her cabinet, although the Denkov government stayed on in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet was formed.
