The hack has two main phases, the first one plays exactly like the original game, while the second one would come into play at random points, which is an unsettling and darker version of the same game featuring a more dreary environment, indestructible badniks, and the well-known Sonic.exe character slowly coming towards the player after a few seconds, where upon contact will lose the player a life while reciting lines from the original creepypasta. Static monitors found during the second phase will return the player back to the first phase, where the levels can be completed as usual. Otherwise, not doing so during the second phase will prevent any further progress when the player reaches the end of each level, with Sonic.exe taking the place of the signpost.
