Ghoochannejhad did not continue his good work in his second season in Heerenveen and finished the season with 7 goals and became Heerenveen's top scorer.

In summer 2021, at the end of his two-year contract, he was released by PEC Zwolle. As of September 2022, he has retired from professional football.
