Hat-trick
A hat-trick or hat trick is the achievement of a generally positive feat three times in a match, or another achievement based on the number three. Origin The term first appeared in 1858 in cricket, to describe H. H. Stephenson taking three Wicket#Dismissing a batsman, wickets with three consecutive delivery (cricket), deliveries. Fans held a collection for Stephenson, and presented him with a hat bought with the proceeds. The term was used in print for the first time in 1865 in the Essex Chronicle, ''Chelmsford Chronicle''. The term was eventually adopted by many other sports including hockey, association football, Formula 1 racing, rugby, and water polo. Tommy Ross (footballer)
Thomas Ross (27 February 1946 – 18 May 2017) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as an inside forward in the Football League for Peterborough United and York City, in the Highland League for Ross County and in non-League football for Wigan Athletic and Rossendale United. He holds the ''Guinness World Record'' for the fastest time to score a hat-trick. Ross joined Ross County in 1961, at the age of 15, and scored his first goal for the club in his debut season. During the 1964–65 season, he scored 44 goals, including a record-breaking hat-trick against Nairn County on 28 November 1964, where he scored three goals within a 90-second period. Ntinos Pontikas
Ntinos Pontikas (; born 27 February 1982) is a Greek former footballer who played as a striker. He holds the record for the youngest player ever to score a hat-trick. Career Pontikas started off with street football before having a brief spell at Toxotis Larissa's youth section in 1995 where Theofanis Gekas was also playing at the time. He subsequently joined Haravgi and was immediately promoted to the first team, scoring a hat-trick on his debut at the age of 14. A few years later he was forced to quit football at a young age due to an injury. Pontikas who was considered one of the most promising young strikers was also one of the fastest players of his generation being able to run 100 metres in less than 11 seconds. John Smith McDougall (9 April 1854 – 16 May 1925) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Scotland between 1877 and 1879. During his international career he played five matches, scoring four goals. Erwin Helmchen (10 May 1907 – 8 June 1981) was a German footballer who played as a striker. He is the most prolific goalscorer in recorded history according to RSSSF with at least 989 goals scored in 582 official matches, although this record include goals in regional, league and city teams. He is also the second goalscorer in league matches with over 720 goals, the second-most prolific goalscorer for a single team with at least 667 goals and the goalscorer with most career hat-tricks with at least 141. In baseball, a golden sombrero is when a batter strikes out four times in a game. Etymology The term derives from "hat trick," and since four is bigger than three, the rationale was that a four-strikeout performance should be represented by a bigger hat, such as a sombrero. From the late 1970s to late 1980s, the exact definition was in flux. A (non-golden) "sombrero" was in use to describe a four-strikeout game at least as early as 1977, and "golden sombrero" was defined as five strikeouts in a 1979 article about slang used by the minor league Jackson Mets. In Keith Hernandez's 1987 memoir ''If at First...'', he defined a "hat trick" as three strikeouts, "sombrero" as four strikeouts, and "golden sombrero" as five strikeouts.
