Yunis Abdelhamid
Yunis Abdelhamid (born 28 September 1987) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Ligue 1 club Reims, which he captains. Born in France, he plays for the Morocco national team. Club career Out of contract from Valenciennes, Abdelhamid joined Dijon on a three-year contract on 15 May 2016. Abdulhamid helped Reims win the 2017–18 Ligue 2 and promote to the Ligue 1 for the 2018–19 season. International career Abdulhamid was called up to the Morocco national team for a friendly against Albania on 1 September 2016, but did not feature. He made his official debut in a 2–0 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification win over São Tomé and Príncipe. On 28 December 2023, Abdulhamid was amongst the 27 players selected by coach Walid Regragui to represent Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Valenciennes Football Club (; commonly known as Valenciennes or USVA) is a French association football club based in Valenciennes. The club was founded in 1913 and currently play in Ligue 2, the second tier of French football. Valenciennes plays its home matches at the recently built Stade du Hainaut located within the city. Valenciennes was founded under the name Union Sportive de Valenciennes Anzin (USVA). The club spent over 80 years playing under the name before switching to its current name. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (also referred to as AFCON 2023 or CAN 2023) is scheduled to be the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men's football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Ivory Coast, the second time the country would host the competition. The Confederation of African Football initially changed the dates of the tournament to June and July rather than the usual January, which first came into play in the 2019 tournament. It would have allowed the tournament to not conflict with other major tournaments, as well as allowing big name players to play for their nations in the tournament without missing games for their European club side. Teams There are 20 clubs in the league, with three promoted teams from Championnat National replacing the three teams that were relegated to the same level, and three relegated teams from Ligue 1 replacing the three teams that were promoted to the same level.
