WFXH-FM (106.1 MHz), known as "Rock 106.1", is an active rock radio station targeted to Savannah, Georgia. The station was a monitored reporter on the Alternative (Modern Rock) panel. Formerly, WFXH reported as an Alternative station to Arbitron and various radio industry publications. The station featured a specialty show called ''Underexposed'', Sunday nights, 9-11 pm. During the show they spotlight indie rock artists like The Decemberists, The Shins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Arcade Fire, and Cold War Kids, along with local acts. That show has apparently been cancelled, its presence excised from the station's website. In April 2008, WFXH debuted ''You Heard It First'', a new show heard weeknights at 11 pm that features only new rock, as part of what the station calls "New Rock Nights". WHHW
WHHW (1130 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Regional Mexican radio format. It is licensed to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The station is currently owned by Alpha Media, and operated by Dick Broadcasting under a local marketing agreement. WHHW broadcasts at 1,000 watts by day. But because AM 1130 is a clear channel frequency, it must reduce power to 500 watts at night to avoid interference. WHHW simulcasts its programming on an FM translator, W241CV at 96.1 MHz, broadcasting at a power level of 99 watts. WRWN (107.9 FM, "Rewind 107.9") is a classic hits radio station licensed to Port Royal, South Carolina and owned by Dick Broadcasting. History The station signed on at 107.1 FM. In June 1988, WLOW began playing nostalgia/big band on 106.9 FM, one of the few FM stations to play this style of music. For much of 1994 the station became the home of local talk station WHHR-FM "The News and Conversation Station". The station was costly to operate and a strong opposition was formed against the loss of the nostalgia format, which had found a home on 99.7 FM. WLOW returned to standards in December, 1994. WUBB (106.9 FM) is a country music formatted radio station targeted towards Savannah and Hilton Head known as "Bob 106.9". At one time the station was on 104.9, which did not provide as strong a signal. History In December, 1987, WIJY signed on 107.9 FM as what was then known as the in vogue New Adult Contemporary, or smooth jazz. In 1996, WIJY was moved to 106.9 as "Joy 106.9". In 1998, the station changed its callsign to WWVV-FM and became Modern AC as "Wave 106.9 - Your Hit Music Station" and then flipped to modern rock as "Wave 106.9 - Savannah's New Rock Alternative" in December 2000.
