WCMV-FM
WCMV-FM (94.3 Leland, Michigan) is a Central Michigan University-owned retransmission station of WCMU. Until February 29, 2020, it simulcast an Adult Hits format with WFDX branded as Music Radio, The Fox FM. WCMV-FM serves the Traverse City area with 20,500 watts. History In the early 1990s, the station signed on as WIAR 94.3, an oldies station simulcasting WAIR. On Thanksgiving 1997, WIAR flipped to country as B94.3 and their call letters changed to WBYB. WAIR remained oldies for more than a year until they started simulcasting with WBYB again under the new name B92.5/B94.3 with their call set being WBYC. On February 24, 2003, The Bee flipped to classic hits as The Fox. Since revising its format, The Fox FM's ratings increased noticeably, as the station had drawn listeners from competing stations WCCW-FM and WGFN. 92.5 WFDX had a slight delay from 94.3 WFCX, and thus the two signals had different liners that indicated the frequency. WFDX (92.5 Atlanta, Michigan) is a Northern Radio-owned station that is currently silent due to a pending sale. Until February 29, 2020, it simulcasted an Adult Hits format with WFCX branded as Music Radio, The Fox FM. WFDX's 100,000-watt signal serves most of northern Michigan including Alpena, Gaylord and Petoskey, while WFCX, the flagship, served the Traverse City area with 20,500 watts. WFDX signed on in 1989 as WAIR, owned by Rick Stone (who now owns WJML Radio in Petoskey). At first, they aired an adult contemporary format with WNIC/Detroit's Johnny Williams doing a voicetracked version of his "Pillow Talk" show for nights. WCMU-FM (89.5 FM) is a public radio station in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The station, owned by Central Michigan University, is a National Public Radio member station, airing a large amount of classical and jazz music along with a variety of other programming. It is the flagship station of a network called CMU Public Radio made up of five other affiliate stations in Northern Michigan. Programming CMU Public Radio offers a number of jazz and blues programs, including Nightside Jazz and Blues, Take Five, The Juke Joint and Destination Out. These primarily air in nighttime and early morning timeslots, aside from the weekday morning music/arts program Mosaic, an afternoon block of classical music on Mondays-Thursdays, and the majority of the station's weekend schedule. Leland, Michigan
Leland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 377. It was the county seat of Leelanau County from 1883 to 2004, when a new government center was completed in Suttons Bay Township, closer to the county's geographic center. Leland is located in Leland Township, which provides local government services. It is on M-22, at the mouth of the Leland River (also known as the Carp River) on Lake Michigan. WGFN (98.1 MHz) is a radio station in Northern Michigan that airs a classic rock format under the branding of "The Bear", and is currently owned by Black Diamond Broadcast Holdings, LLC. WGFN is based out of Glen Arbor, Michigan, airing at 98.1 FM to the Traverse City market. WGFN has been the flagship station of the Bear network of classic rock stations that have aired in Northern Michigan since the early 2000s, which peaked with 4 regional stations from 2002-2009 and 2010-2012. The only other surviving Bear station in the region is 95.3 WWSS, which airs the same programming and playlist as WGFN, but features differing station identifications and commercial content for its market. WCCW-FM (107.5 MHz) is an FM radio station in Traverse City, Michigan, United States. The station is owned by the Midwestern Broadcasting group, which to this day includes the family members of its original partners from the early 1940s, the Biedermans, Kikers and McClays. Midwestern, parent company of WTCM and WTCM-FM, acquired its long-time "local competitor" WCCW in 1996.
