WFDX
WFDX (92.5 Atlanta, Michigan) is a Northern Radio-owned station that is currently silent due to a pending sale. Until February 29, 2020, it simulcasted an Adult Hits format with WFCX branded as Music Radio, The Fox FM. WFDX's 100,000-watt signal serves most of northern Michigan including Alpena, Gaylord and Petoskey, while WFCX, the flagship, served the Traverse City area with 20,500 watts. WFDX signed on in 1989 as WAIR, owned by Rick Stone (who now owns WJML Radio in Petoskey). At first, they aired an adult contemporary format with WNIC/Detroit's Johnny Williams doing a voicetracked version of his "Pillow Talk" show for nights. In the early 1990s, WAIR flipped to oldies, and shortly thereafter, WIAR 94.3 signed on, simulcasting WAIR's signal. Around that time, Northern Radio took over WAIR. WCMV-FM (94.3 Leland, Michigan) is a Central Michigan University-owned retransmission station of WCMU. Until February 29, 2020, it simulcast an Adult Hits format with WFDX branded as Music Radio, The Fox FM. WCMV-FM serves the Traverse City area with 20,500 watts. History In the early 1990s, the station signed on as WIAR 94.3, an oldies station simulcasting WAIR. On Thanksgiving 1997, WIAR flipped to country as B94.3 and their call letters changed to WBYB. WAIR remained oldies for more than a year until they started simulcasting with WBYB again under the new name B92.5/B94.3 with their call set being WBYC. On February 24, 2003, The Bee flipped to classic hits as The Fox. WJML (1110 AM) is a radio station licensed to Petoskey, Michigan, which is owned by John Yob, through licensee Mitten News LLC. The station airs a mixture of liberal and conservative talk, and is simulcast on WJNL 1210 in Kingsley, Michigan, WHAK 960 in Rogers City, Michigan, and FM stations WWMN 106.3 in Thompsonville, Michigan and WYPV 94.5 in Mackinaw City, Michigan, as well as a translator on 101.1 FM in Traverse City, Michigan. During the 1970s and 1980s, WJML was one of the most successful AM/ FM radio combos in northern Michigan. WGFN (98.1 MHz) is a radio station in Northern Michigan that airs a classic rock format under the branding of "The Bear", and is currently owned by Black Diamond Broadcast Holdings, LLC. WGFN is based out of Glen Arbor, Michigan, airing at 98.1 FM to the Traverse City market. WGFN has been the flagship station of the Bear network of classic rock stations that have aired in Northern Michigan since the early 2000s, which peaked with 4 regional stations from 2002-2009 and 2010-2012. The only other surviving Bear station in the region is 95.3 WWSS, which airs the same programming and playlist as WGFN, but features differing station identifications and commercial content for its market. Alpena ( ') is the only city in and county seat of Alpena County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 10,483 at the 2010 census. The station airs an active rock format, simulcasting 105.1 WGFM in Cheboygan, Michigan. History In 1989, David C. Schaberg applied for a construction permit on 95.5 FM in Glen Arbor, and the station was known as WTHM. Schaberg sold the permit to Del Reynolds in 1997, where he changed the call letters to WJZJ. WCCW-FM (107.5 MHz) is an FM radio station in Traverse City, Michigan, United States. The station is owned by the Midwestern Broadcasting group, which to this day includes the family members of its original partners from the early 1940s, the Biedermans, Kikers and McClays. Midwestern, parent company of WTCM and WTCM-FM, acquired its long-time "local competitor" WCCW in 1996. Boyne City, Michigan
Boyne City () is a city in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,816 at the 2020 census. The city is located at the southeastern end of Lake Charlevoix where Boyne River drains into the lake. History The area was first settled as early as 1856 by the families of John Dixon and John Miller in 1856, which was part of Emmet County until Charlevoix County was organized in 1869.
