WAPOR
The World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) is an international professional association of researchers in the field of survey research. It is a member organization of the International Science Council. History Established in 1947 at the Second International Conference on Public Opinion Research held in Williamstown, Massachusetts as the World Congress on Public Opinion Research, the association acquired its current name in 1948, at the Third International Conference on Public Opinion Research. In 1953, it became the sole nongovernment consultant organization to UNESCO in the field of polling. American Association For Public Opinion Research
The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) is a professional organization of more than 2,000 public opinion and survey research professionals in the United States and from around the world, with members from academia, media, government, the non-profit sector and private industry. AAPOR publishes three academic journals: Public Opinion Quarterly, Survey Practice' and the '' Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology''. It holds an annual research conference and maintains aCode of Professional Ethics and Practices, for survey research which all members agree to follow. The ''International Journal of Public Opinion Research'' (''IJPOR'') is a quarterly social science journal sponsored by the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) and published by Oxford University Press. Since 1994, WAPOR bestows the Robert M. Worcester Prize for the best article from the year in ''IJPOR''; among prior recipients of the prize is communications researcher Dietram Scheufele. Michael Traugott
Michael Wolfe Traugott is an American political scientist, communication studies researcher, and political pundit. As of 2022, he is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and adjunct research professor at UM's Institute for Social Research, Center for Political Studies. Traugott finished his undergraduate education at Princeton University and completed a Master's degree and PhD at the University of Michigan. He has authored, co-authored, or edited at least 14 books and more than 100 journal articles and book chapters. His research focuses on voting technology (sponsored by a National Science Foundation grant), elections, political campaigns, opinion polling, and the political role of the mass media in the United States. Robert Chung
Robert Chung ( zh, t=鍾庭耀, j=Zung1 Ting4-jiu6; born 7 September 1957) is a Hong Kong academic. He is president and chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute, an independent institute since May 2019 and the successor organisation of the Public Opinion Programme of the University of Hong Kong (POP), of which he was long-time head. In 2000, Chung wrote an academic article stating that he felt pressure to stop conducting public opinion research polls. Later known as the 'Robert Chung affair', his article showed that freedom of speech was still alive in Hong Kong. Education and career Chung graduated from Diocesan Boys' School. Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann
Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann (19 December 1916 – 25 March 2010) was a German political scientist. Her most famous contribution is the model of the spiral of silence, detailed in ''The Spiral of Silence: Public Opinion – Our Social Skin''. The model is an explanation of how perceived public opinion can influence individual opinions or actions. Biography Elisabeth Noelle was born to Ernst and Eve Noelle in 1916 in the Villa Noelle in Grunewald, a suburb of Berlin. First Elisabeth went to several schools in Berlin and then switched to the prestigious Salem Castle School, which she also left one year later. Helen Dinerman
Helen Schneider Dinerman (December 25, 1920 – August 14, 1974) was an American sociologist and public opinion researcher. Biography Born in New York City in 1920, Dinerman received her education at Hunter College and Columbia University. Later, she worked as a researcher in the United States Office of War Information and trained at the Bureau for Applied Social Research, the first academic research centre dedicated to survey research, founded by Paul Lazarsfeld in 1944. She began working with the International Research Associates in 1948, and became chairman of the firm's executive committee in 1968. Dinerman died in Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon on August 14, 1974, while on holiday with her daughter. ESOMAR
ESOMAR is a global professional association for market research and insights that was founded in 1947. The name ESOMAR is an abbreviation of their original name, the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research, which reflects the original catchment of the organisation. ESOMAR has published an ethics and guidance code for its members since 1948, with a joint code being published with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) since 1977. International Science Council
The International Science Council (ISC) is an international non-governmental organization that unites scientific bodies at various levels across the social and natural sciences. The ISC was formed with its inaugural general assembly on 4 July 2018 by the merger of the former International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), making it one of the largest organisations of this type. Robert Worcester
Sir Robert Milton Worcester, (born 21 December 1933) is an American-born British pollster who is the founder of MORI (Market & Opinion Research International Ltd.) and a member and contributor to many voluntary organisations. He is a well-known figure in British public opinion research and political circles and as a media commentator, especially about voting intentions in British and American elections. Early life A Kansas City native, Worcester graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955, and following service in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Korea worked with management consultants McKinsey & Company.
