Radio Stations
Radio broadcasting is the broadcasting of audio signal, audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in ''satellite radio'' the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a Radio receiver, broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network that provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast, or both. The code, encoding of a radio broadcast depends on whether it uses an analog signal, analog or digital signal. Analog radio broadcasts use one of two types of radio wave modulation: amplitude modulation for AM radio, or frequency modulation for FM radio. Metro FM (Turkey)
Metro FM is a nationwide FM radio network broadcasting from Istanbul. It is one of the first privately founded radio stations in Turkey and the first foreign music station. Broadcasting Pop Music in languages other than Turkish, Metro FM can be listened to via terrestrial broadcast, Turksat 2A Satellite, BlackBerry and iPhone applications. Founded by the private Uzan Group, Metro FM remained one of the media branches of the holding for over ten years. The station briefly stayed under government entity after the takeover of the Uzan Holding companies by government banking regulation agency TMSF. With the auction held in September 2005, Metro FM has been sold to the Canadian communication group Canwest for a sum of US$22,850,000. Radio is the technology of communicating using radio waves. Radio waves are electromagnetic waves of frequency between 3 hertz (Hz) and 300 gigahertz (GHz). They are generated by an electronic device called a transmitter connected to an antenna which radiates the waves. They can be received by other antennas connected to a radio receiver; this is the fundamental principle of radio communication. Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (; BRT, ''Bayrak'' means ''flag'' or ''banner'' in Turkish), is the official radio and television broadcasting corporation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It operates BRT1 and BRT2.
