University Of Nizwa
The University of Nizwa (UoN) was established in 2002 by the Decree of Sultan Qaboos as the first non-profit university in the Sultanate of Oman. It remains the only institution of its kind in Oman. Upon the satisfaction of all requirements set forth by the Oman Ministry of Higher Education and the Higher Education Council, the University of Nizwa was granted legal status by ministerial decision No. 1/2004 on January 3, 2004. On October 16, 2004, the University of Nizwa opened the doors to its inaugural class of 1,200 students, 88% of whom were Omani women. The existing campus is located near the base of the famous Jabal al-Akhdhar in Birkat al-Mouz, 20 km northwest of Nizwa. The construction of a new campus, located near the Farq-Hail highway, began in March 2010. Faculty Ahmed Al-Harrasi, is a professor of organic chemistry. Nizwa
Nizwa () is the largest city in Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Imamate of Oman, Oman proper. Nizwa is about (1.5 hour drive) from the Omani capital Muscat. The population is estimated at around 83,544 people. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman, and was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar Governorate, Dhofar, thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Ad Dakhiliyah () is one of the eleven Governorates of Oman, governorates (''muhafazah'') of Oman with Nizwa town as the regional center. It was previously a region (''mintaqah''). Sultan Qaboos
Sultan (; ', ) is a position with several historical meanings. Originally, it was an Arabic abstract noun meaning "strength", "authority", "rulership", derived from the verbal noun ', meaning "authority" or "power". Ahmed Al-Harrasi
Ahmed Sulaiman Al-Harrasi (; born 13 October 1974) is an Omani scientist and a professor of organic chemistry at the University of Nizwa, Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman. Education Ahmed Al-Harrasi completed his Ph.D. from Freie Universität Berlin in Synthetic Organic Chemistry (New transformations of enantiopure 3,6-dihydro-2H-1,2-oxazines ring cleavages, ring enlargements and a novel approach to carbohydrate mimetics) in 2005. His name has appeared as the alumni Ph.D. Student of the Reissig Research Group at Freie Universität Berlin.
