United Generation Basketball
United Generations Basketball, also known as UGB, is a Rwandan semi-professional basketball team based in Kigali. The team plays in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL), the top division in the country since 1998. The team is co-owned by singer Bruce Melodie, who became a minority shareholder in 2024. Every year, UGB hosts an exhibition tournament named the Legacy Tournament in honour of club founders Championat Aimable and Jean De Dieu Nizeyimana. Among the team's most famous players are Jean Jacques Boissy and Guibert Nijimbere. Rwanda Basketball League
The Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) (formerly the National Basketball League Rwanda) is the top professional basketball league in Rwanda. Its season usually runs from November to September. The winners of the NBL season qualify for the qualifiers for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The league currently consists of 14 teams, most of them being from the country's capital Kigali. The current champion of the NBL are REG, having won the 2022 title. REG and their rival Patriots BBC have dominated the league, winning all titles since 2015. Since the 2021–22 season, the FERWABA also organises the Rwanda Basketball League Division 2 to which the bottom two teams of the RBL relegate. Itahiwacu Bruce (born 2 March 1992), commonly known as Bruce Melodie is a Rwandan singer and songwriter and a winner of Primus Guma Guma Super Star seasons 8 (PGGSS). Jean Jacques Boissy
Jean Jacques Boissy (born 28 January 2000) is a Senegalese basketball player who last played for AS Douanes and the Senegal national team. Playing at point guard, he is a graduate of the NBA Academy Africa and has played professionally since 2021. Boissy was an All-BAL First Team selection in 2023. Early life and career Basketball was introduced to Boissy by his father, Elysee Boissy, who was a former Senegal national team player and played at the 2003 FIBA Africa Championship. Guibert Nijimbere
Joe Guibert Nijimbere (born 26 December 1996) is a Burundian basketball player for Kepler and the Burundi national basketball team. Early life Nijimbere was born on 26 December 1996 in Mutanga-Nord, a suburb of Bujumbura, the largest city in the country. He was the second of 9 children. He grew up attending his father's Sunday league basketball games with his three brothers, all of whom ended up playing the sport. Career Starting his career for New Star in 2013, he became the youngest player to play at Burundi's highest level at the age of 16. In 2017, Nijimbere signed with IPRC-Kigali in Rwanda. 2021–22 RBL Season
The 2021–22 RBL season is the 1st season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its new name. The season began on March 11, 2022 and ended September 19, 2022. The defending champions REG repeated and won their third league title, after defeating rivals Patriots in the finals. 2023 RBL Season
The 2023 RBL season was the second season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its current name, while the top-level competition has been organised by the FERWABA for a longer time. The season began on 12 January 2023 with the regular season. The playoffs began on 23 August and ended on 9 September 2023. APR won a record-extending 14th national title, following a clean sweep of defending champions REG in the finals. With their victory, APR ended a 14-year title drought. The 2024 RBL season was the 3rd season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its current name, while the top-level competition has been organised by the FERWABA for a longer time. The regular season began on 9 February and ended on 23 August 2024. The playoffs began on 30 August and ended on 23 September 2024. APR won its record-extending fifteenth national title after their finals win over Patriots. Team changes Regular season The number of teams in the regular season was decreased from twelve to ten. This season, two teams are relegated to the Division 2. 2024 Rwanda Basketball Cup
The 2024 Rwanda Basketball Cup was the inaugural season of the Rwanda Basketball Cup, the cup competition for men's teams in Rwanda. It is organised by FERWABA, the national basketball association. The first games were played on 26 April 2024, while the playoffs began on 9 July 2024, and ended end on 9 August 2024. The first season consisted of 21 teams from the Rwanda Basketball League as well as the Rwanda Basketball League Division 2. The first four teams from the 2023 RBL season received direct qualification for the quarterfinals, while the other teams entered the group phase. APR won the inaugural cup title after defeating REG in the final. The winners qualified for the inaugural Rwanda Basketball Supercup, which will be held later in the year. Patrick Ronald Rembert (born April 9, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for Kalleh Mazandaran of the Iranian Basketball Super League. Nemanja Milošević (born July 4, 1987) is a Montenegrin professional basketball player who currently plays for GGMT Vienna of the Austrian Basketball Superliga . Professional career Milošević started his career in his home country with power house Budućnost Podgorica. He won the league title with Podgorica. In 2012, he signed with Mornar Bar.
