Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway
The Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway ( zh, 敦林苍佑大道; ), signed as Federal Route 3113, is an expressway in George Town that connects its city centre with Batu Maung at its south. This expressway stretches along the eastern coast of Penang Island. It was named in honour of Penang's second chief minister, Lim Chong Eu who died in 2010. There are two sections of the expressway, the Jelutong Expressway and Bayan Lepas Expressway. Route background Kilometre zero is located at Batu Maung. The second elevated highway in Penang after Kuala Lumpur and Bayan Baru was constructed at Bayan Lepas Expressway here. Weld Quay, George Town
Weld Quay is a coastal road in the city of George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. One of a handful of places worldwide that was named after a Prime Minister of New Zealand, the road runs along the city's eastern shoreline, connecting the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway with Light Street and Beach Street. Weld Quay was created as part of a massive land reclamation project in George Town in the late 19th century, which pushed the coastline further east. During the heyday of British rule, Weld Quay was home to the Port of Penang, which was then one of the major ports in Malaya. The Chinese Clan Jetties at the road was originally built to house the Chinese labourers employed at the harbour. The Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (), also known as the Penang Second Bridge (), is a dual carriageway toll bridge in Penang, Malaysia. It connects Bandar Cassia (Batu Kawan) in Seberang Perai, Peninsular Malaysia, with Batu Maung on Penang Island. It is the second bridge to link the island to the mainland after Penang Bridge. The total length of the span is with over water, making it the longest bridge in Malaysia and the second longest in Southeast Asia, behind the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge in Brunei. Penang Road is a major thoroughfare in the city of George Town, within the Malaysian state of Penang. It runs between Farquhar Street to the north and Komtar to the south. It is a one-way road, with traffic directed southwards towards Komtar. As a major artery within the city centre, Penang Road frequently experiences heavy traffic, as it is home to a number of attractions such as the bars at Upper Penang Road and Chowrasta Market, one of the few wet markets still in operation within the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Paya Terubong
Paya Terubong is a suburb of George Town, Penang, George Town in the States and federal territories of Malaysia, Malaysian state of Penang. Located nearly southwest of the Central George Town, Penang, city centre, it is nestled within the central valleys of Penang Island and south of Air Itam. Originally an agricultural village, rapid development in the last decades of the 20th century has transformed the area into a residential suburb. Gelugor
Gelugor is a suburb of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Named after a plant species, Gelugor lies along the eastern seaboard of Penang Island, between Jelutong and Sungai Dua, and nearly south of the city centre. Gelugor had been populated as early as the late 18th century by Malay fishermen who arrived from Sumatra. The area was then cleared for agricultural plantations by David Brown, a partner of Captain Francis Light. Urbanisation of the area began in earnest in the 1960s, when residential estates were established within the area. Gelugor gradually turned into a suburb, helped by its strategic location right in between the city centre and Bayan Lepas to the south. In 1969, Universiti Sains Malaysia was founded at Gelugor and is now one of the top Malaysian public universities.
