Malay titles#State titles, Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam (; 1 April 1952 – 15 March 2007) was a Malaysian politician, businessman and community leader of Malaysian Chinese, Chinese descent. Poh was born in Kampung Belimbing, near Durian Tunggal, Malacca. He and his family moved to nearby Machap Baru, where Poh in later years contributed significantly to the small town's development. After working as a teaching, teacher and later venturing into business, Poh stood as a state assembly candidate for Pulau Sebang in the 1986 Malaysian general election, 1986 General Elections and won, beginning his political career. He was the Malacca state Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and the Malacca State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, as well as the Malacca State Legislative Assembly, Malacca state assemblyman for Pulau Sebang (1986-1995), Bukit Sedanan (1995-2004) and Machap Jaya (state constituency), Machap (2004-2007). Jalan Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam
Jalan Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam (Malacca state route ), also known as Jalan Lorong Pandan, is a major highway in Malacca state, Malaysia. It was built in April 2007 and was named after former Malacca's State Assemblyman for Machap Baru, Machap and also State Housing and Local Government Committee, Poh Ah Tiam, Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam. Naming Lorong Pandan was given a new name, Jalan Datuk Wira Poh ah Tiam, which was suggested by Mohd Ali Rustam, and has passed in the Malacca State Legislative Assembly on 21 March 2007, the name was officially changed on 23 March 2007. Development A road sign at the junction where Jalan Malim turns left into Lorong Pandan was replaced to the Jalan Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam. A new road sign was also installed at the junction where Tengkera leading to Limbongan and turns left into Lorong Pandan. 2007 Machap By-election
The 2007 Machap by-election was held on 12 April 2007. The seat in the state assembly of Malacca, Malaysia, fell vacant after the incumbent, Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), died on 15 March that year. On 21 March 2007, the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) announced 3 April 2007 as the nomination day and 12 April 2007 the election date. The MCA candidate, Lai Meng Chong eventually defeated the opposition candidate of Liou Chen Kuang, with a reduced majority compared to the previous 2004 election. Lai Meng Chong (; born 3 September 1951) is a Malaysian politician of Chinese descent from the town of Machap Baru in Malacca state. He is a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a major component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and holds the position of vice-chairman in the MCA's Alor Gajah division. Lai is also the political secretary to the Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, MCA vice-president and MP for Alor Gajah, Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn.
