The Explorers (play)
''The Explorers'' is a 1952 Australian radio play about the Burke and Wills expedition by John Sandford. It was Sandford's first play. The 1952 radio production starred Allan Trevor and Lloyd Berrell. It was one of a series of longer plays broadcast on ABC that ran at 90 minutes (the others were productions of British plays such as ''The Importance of Being Earnest'' and ''Hamlet''). The play was repeated in December 1952 (in a shortened version) and produced again with a new cast in 1957. It came out the same year as another play about Burke and Wills, ''I Tell My Story''. Reception The ''Daily Telegraph'' called it "very ordinary... If the main purpose of this play was to lead up .to the tragic end of the two explorers, then they cettainly took an unconscionable time a-dying." Frank Harvey (Australian Screenwriter)
Frank Harvey (22 December 1885 – 10 October 1965) was a British-born actor, producer and writer best known for his work in Australia. Biography Frank Harvey was born Harvey Ainsworth Hilton, in 1883 in Earls Court, London, son of John Ainsworth Hilton and Elizabeth Hilton. His occupation in the British 1911 Census was "actor" and was married with Grace Hilton, . He had 3 sisters, named Maria, Cora and Caroline according to the British 1891 Census. Caroline Gladys Hilton was married to Hanns Wyldeck and from that union was born in 1914 Harvey Martin Wyldeck, also an actor, who died in England in 1989. Leonard George Thiele AO (26 September 192214 May 1994), professionally Leonard Teale, was a well-known Australian actor of radio, television and film and radio announcer, presenter and narrator known for his resonant baritone voice. Keith Buckley (7 April 1941 – 1 December 2020) was an English actor who mostly appeared on television and films from 1958. Career Keith Buckley was born in April 1941 in Huddersfield, West Riding of Yorkshire and performed in school plays at Huddersfield College. Reg Lye
Reginald Thomas Lye (14 October 1912 – 23 March 1988), was an Australian actor who worked extensively in Australia and England. He was one of the busiest Australian actors of the 1950s, appearing in the majority of locally shot features at the time, as well as on stage and radio. Lee Robinson called him "one of the best character actors in Australia." Nigel Tasman Lovell (27 January 1916 – 13 December 2001) was an Australian stage, radio, film and television actor, and producer of opera and both stage and radio drama. History Lovell was born in Sydney, a son of Tasman Lovell, Professor of Psychology and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sydney University, living at Honda Road, Neutral Bay. During the 1960s, he was a leading actor on British television, where he was best known for his appearances in ''The Troubleshooters'' (1965–1971). Maxwell Hamilton Osbiston (7 August 1914 – 12 March 1981) was an Australian actor, active in radio, stage, film and television. Biography Osbiston was born in Sydney, the son of Frank and Iolanthe Osbiston (née Margoliouth) of Cremorne, New South Wales. He spent three years at the Agricultural School at Yanco, followed by North Sydney High School.
