Teslyn Barkman
Teslyn Siobhan Barkman (born 17 November 1987) is a Falkland Island journalist and politician who has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Camp constituency since the 2017 general election. Prior to entering politics, she was a journalist for ''Penguin News''. Career While working for ''Penguin News'', she expressed concern about plans for Members of the Legislative Assembly to earn a full-time wage of £40,000, arguing that it was too high and would not attract suitable candidates. In 2013, she was part of a delegation that travelled to the United States to lobby the United States Congress to recognise the results of the 2013 Falkland Islands sovereignty referendum. Later that year, she stood for election in the 2013 Falkland Islands general election being one of the youngest candidates standing and the only one under 30. 2013 Falkland Islands Sovereignty Referendum
A referendum on political status was held in the Falkland Islands on 10–11 March 2013. The Falkland Islanders were asked whether or not they supported the continuation of their status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom in view of Argentina's call for negotiations on the islands' sovereignty. On a turnout of 92%, 99.8% voted to remain a British territory, with only three votes against. Had the islanders rejected the continuation of their current status, a second referendum on possible alternatives would have been held. Brad Smith, the leader of the international observer group, announced that the referendum was free and fair and executed in accordance with international standards and international laws. Stanley is a constituency of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands which has been in existence since the first elections in the Falklands in 1949. The constituency of Stanley consists of the area that lies within 3.5 miles of the spire of Christ Church Cathedral.Section 6Electoral Ordinance 1988 (Ordinance No. 21 of 1988) read with thElections (Boundaries of Constituencies) Regulations 1989 (S.R. & O. The Falkland Islands general election of 2013 was held on Thursday 7 November 2013 to elect all eight members of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands, Legislative Assembly (five from the Stanley constituency and three from the Camp constituency) through universal suffrage using Plurality-at-large voting, block voting, with each Stanley constituent having up to 5 votes and each Camp constituent having up to 3 votes.
