HMS Tenacious (R45)
HMS ''Tenacious'' was a S and T-class destroyer, T-class destroyer of the Royal Navy that saw service during the Second World War. She was built by Cammell Laird, of Birkenhead and launched on 24 March 1943. War service The ship served from 1943 to 1944 in the Mediterranean (where she shared in the sinking of U-boat ''U-453'' and also several E-boats), and the Aegean and Greek islands. The destroyer also took part in the liberation of France as support bombardment for the invasion of the South of France in July–August, 1944. HMS Tenacious was seconded to serve in East Indies Fleet, as part of the escort force of the 21st Aircraft Carrier Squadron in 1944–5, against the Japanese, then came under the command of the 3rd US Pacific fleet (Admiral Bull Halsey), and given a temporary pennant number D46 to enable identification by US naval forces. HMNZS ''Resolution'' (A14) was a hydrographic ship of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). Originally the United States Naval Ship USNS ''Tenacious'' (T-AGOS-17), the ''Stalwart''-class ocean surveillance ship was used by the United States to locate and track Soviet submarines from 1989 to 1997, when she was transferred to the RNZN for use as a hydrographic survey ship. She served until 27 April 2012. She was subsequently sold to EGS Group, a private surveying company, and renamed RV ''Geo Resolution''. Construction The ship's construction contract was awarded 20 February 1987 to VT Halter Marine, Inc. of Moss Point, Mississippi, under then name ''Intrepid''. SV ''Tenacious'' is a modern British wooden sail training ship, specially designed in the 1990s. When completed in 2000, it was the largest wooden ship to be built in the UK for over 100 years. Design and construction The ship was built by the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) and designed by Tony Castro. With , the pair are the only tall ships in the world that were built so that both disabled and non-disabled people can sail as crew, not passengers. Features that cannot be found on other ships include wheelchair lifts throughout, a unique ascender systems that allow wheelchair users to go aloft (either assisted or by their own efforts), a speaking compass for those with visual impairments, hearing loops, adjustable furniture for those with mobility difficulties, and a joystick to help individuals with dexterity limitations to steer the ship. The Fastnet Race is a biennial offshore yacht race organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) of the United Kingdom with the assistance of the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and the City of Cherbourg in France. The race is named after the Fastnet Rock off southern Ireland, which the race course rounds. Along with Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the Newport-Bermuda Race, it is considered one of the classic big offshore races with each distance approximately , testing both inshore and offshore skills, boat and crew preparation and speed potential. Tenacious (1954–1967) was an American Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse who was one of the most popular ever to compete in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1966, Fair Grounds Race Course inaugurated the Tenacious Handicap in his honor and on his death in 1967, a memorial plaque was installed in the track's infield and following its creation in 1971, he was inducted in the Fair Grounds Hall of Fame. Tenacious was bred and raced by Dorothy Dorsett Brown, wife of Joe W. Brown, a prominent Louisiana oilman and owner of the Binion's Horseshoe, Horseshoe Club Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Out of the mare Dorothy B. Jr., Tenacious was sired by Challedon, the 1939 American Horse of the Year and National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee. Alphonse Lee Mouzon (November 21, 1948 – December 25, 2016) was an American musician and vocalist, most prominently known as a jazz fusion drummer. He was also a composer, arranger, producer, and actor. Mouzon gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was the owner of Tenacious Records, a label that primarily released Mouzon's recordings. Biography Early life Mouzon, of African, French, and Blackfoot descent, was born on November 21, 1948, in Charleston, South Carolina. He received his first musical training at Bonds-Wilson High School, and moved to New York City upon graduation. He studied drama and music at the City College of New York, as well as medicine at Manhattan Medical School. He continued receiving drum lessons from Bobby Thomas, the drummer for jazz pianist Billy Taylor. Tenacious D is an American comedy rock duo formed in Los Angeles in 1994 by the actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Their music showcases Black's theatrical vocal delivery and Gass' acoustic guitar playing. Critics have described their fusion of vulgar absurdist comedy with rock music as "mock rock".
