''Tellurique'' is the fourth studio album by French industrial rock music group Kill the Thrill. It was released on 17 May 2005 through Season of Mist record label. Musical style Like Kill the Thrill's overall sound, ''Tellurique'' draws influences from various genres, including heavy metal, new wave, ambient goth, alternative rock and industrial music. Featuring frontman Nicolas Dick's occasionally low and effect-laden deadpan vocals, the album consists of "down-tempo, brooding, lyric-driven songs" and atmospheric compositions typical of progressive rock and space rock styles. In terms of atmosphere and compositions, the tracks on the album were compared to the works of Killing Joke, Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails, Isis and Voivod. Kill The Thrill
Kill the Thrill is a French industrial rock/Industrial metal, metal band formed in Marseille in 1989. The band consists of Nicolas Dick (lead vocals, guitar, programming), Marylin Tognolli (bass, programming, vocals), and Frédéric De Benedetti (guitar, vocals). Generally associated with the industrial music movement, the band has dabbled with a variety of sounds during its career, ranging from alternative rock, to Ambient music, ambient Gothic rock, goth, to darker new wave music, new wave, and heavy metal music, heavy metal. The band's Eclecticism in music, musical eclecticism led to a cult following among its selective audience. Deadpan, dry humour, or dry-wit humour is the deliberate display of emotional neutrality or no emotion, commonly as a form of comedic delivery to contrast with the ridiculousness or absurdity of the subject matter. The delivery is meant to be blunt, ironic, laconic, or apparently unintentional. Etymology The term ''deadpan'' first emerged early in the 20th century, as a compound word (sometimes spelled as two words) combining "dead" and "pan" (a slang term for the face). Godflesh
Godflesh are an English industrial metal band from Birmingham. The group formed in 1982 under the title Fall of Because but did not release any complete music until 1988 when Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) and G. C. Green (bass) renamed the band and decided to use a drum machine for percussion. Melding heavy metal with industrial music and later with electronic music and dub, Godflesh's sound is widely regarded as a foundational influence on other industrial metal and post-metal acts and as significant to both experimental and extreme metal. The band signed to Earache Records in the late 1980s and released their debut album ''Streetcleaner'' (1989) to contemporary and lasting acclaim. ''Us and Them'' is the fifth studio album by English band Godflesh. It was released through Earache Records on 17 May 1999 in Europe and on 8 June 1999 in North America. As with Godflesh's 1997 remix album '' Love and Hate in Dub'', ''Us and Them'' is influenced by breakbeats, drum and bass, oldschool jungle, trip hop and hip hop. Shortly after ''Us and Them's'' release, Godflesh frontman Justin Broadrick admitted that he "hated" the album as it was the expression of an "identity crisis". Years later, he revised his thoughts, saying that his hatred of ''Us and Them'' was "overstated", and that his main issue in the album lies in its more "cringe-worthy moments." Voivod (band)
Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Quebec (now Saguenay, Quebec). The original line-up consisted of vocalist Denis "Snake" Bélanger, guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and bassist Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault. The band has had numerous members changes throughout its -year career, with Langevin as the only remaining original member. Isis (sometimes stylized ISIS) was an American post-metal band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1997. Joy Division
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Killing Joke
Killing Joke are an English rock band from Notting Hill, London, England, formed in 1979 by Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards), Paul Ferguson (drums), Geordie Walker (guitar) and Youth (bass). Space Rock
Space rock is a music genre characterized by loose and lengthy song structures centered on instrumental textures that typically produce a hypnotic, otherworldly sound. It may feature distorted and reverberation-laden guitars, minimal drumming, languid vocals, synthesizers and lyrical themes of outer space and science fiction.
