Voivod (band)
Voivod is a Canadian Heavy metal music, heavy metal band from Jonquière (now part of Saguenay, Quebec, Saguenay) Quebec. The original line-up consisted of vocalist Denis Bélanger, Denis "Snake" Bélanger, guitarist Denis D'Amour, Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, drummer Michel Langevin, Michel "Away" Langevin and bassist Jean-Yves Thériault, Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault. The band has had numerous members changes throughout its -year career, with Langevin as the only consistent member. Their current line-up includes Langevin, Bélanger, Daniel Mongrain, Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain (guitar) and Dominic "Rocky" Laroche (bass). Voivod's musical style has changed several times since its inception. Hellfest (French Music Festival)
Hellfest (), also known as Hellfest Summer Open Air, is a rock festival focusing on heavy metal music, held annually in June in Clisson, France. Its high attendance makes it the French music festival with the largest turnover. It is also one of the biggest metal festivals in Europe and the biggest to exist in France. It originated in another music festival, the Fury Fest, held from 2002 to 2005, in different areas of Pays de la Loire. Hellfest took over in 2006 and over the years has seen a continuous rise in visitors, from 22,000 in the first edition, to 55,000 tickets sold per day in 2017. In 2022, the seven-day festival featured 350 bands and was attended by 60,000 people per day. Denis Bélanger
Denis "Snake" Bélanger (born August 9, 1964) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He is the lead singer and lyricist of heavy metal band Voivod. Early life Bélanger was born on August 9, 1964 and grew up in Jonquière, Quebec. Career Bélanger joined Michel Langevin, Denis D'Amour and Jean-Yves Thériault to form Voivod in 1982, in northern Quebec. He appeared on the albums '' War & Pain'', '' Rrröööaaarrr'', '' Killing Technology'', ''Dimension Hatröss'', '' Nothingface'', '' Angel Rat'' and '' The Outer Limits''. Bélanger departed the group in 1994, after completing a tour in support of ''The Outer Limits''. He formed his own band, Union Made with Peter Jackson and worked on the song "Dictatosaurus" with Dave Grohl's side project dubbed Probot. Blind Illusion
Blind Illusion is an American progressive thrash metal band from Richmond, California. The band’s original line-up formed in 1978 by lead guitarist and songwriter Mark Biedermann. Since Blind Illusion’s inception the band has had several line-up changes, with Biedermann remaining the only constant member. Blind Illusion is also notable for featuring Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde, both later of Primus, who performed bass and guitar respectively on their 1988 debut album '' The Sane Asylum''. Anacrusis was an American progressive/thrash metal band from St. Louis, Missouri. Anacrusis was one of the first bands to attempt to blend thrash and progressive metal. Their albums '' Manic Impressions'' and '' Screams and Whispers'' are considered as classics of the progressive thrash metal / prog metal genre. Mekong Delta is a German thrash/progressive metal band formed by Ralf Hubert in 1985. The band members initially kept their identities a secret, assuming that German musicians would not be accepted internationally. The band's debut album, ''Mekong Delta'', was released in 1987, followed by several other albums, lineup changes, and a hiatus. Dark Angel is an American thrash metal band from Downey, California, formed in 1981. The band's current lineup includes drummer Gene Hoglan, guitarists Eric Meyer and Laura Christine, frontman Ron Rinehart and bassist Mike Gonzalez. In its history, they have gone through many lineup changes, and as of guitarist Jim Durkin's death on March 8, 2023, there are no original members left in the current lineup of Dark Angel, although Meyer (who joined the band in 1984) is the only member to appear on all of their studio albums. Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter. Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is an American musician, best known as the bassist of heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. He performed with thrash metal band Flotsam and Jetsam for the first five years of his career before joining Metallica in October 1986 to succeed Cliff Burton, who died the month prior. Eric Forrest
Eric Forrest (born 1970) is a Canadian heavy metal musician. Active since 1988, Forrest is best known for playing in a number of metal bands, including Voivod, E-Force, and Project Failing Flesh. Career During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Forrest was a member of the bands Liquid Indian and Thunder Circus. He joined Voivod in early 1994 as bassist and vocalist, picking up the nickname "E-Force".
