''Sunflower'' () is a 2005 drama film directed by Zhang Yang (director), Zhang Yang. Zhang's fourth film, ''Sunflower'' is a joint production of Ming Productions, the Beijing Film Studio (as part of the China Film Corporation's 4th Production Company) and the Hong Kong subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Fortissimo Films. It was distributed by Fortissimo Films and New Yorker Films (US theatrical distribution). The film stars Sun Haiying and Joan Chen as a husband and wife, and the actors Zhang Fan (actor), Zhang Fan, Gao Ge and Wang Haidi as their son over the course of 30 years. Zhang Yang (director)
Zhang Yang (; born 1967) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and occasional actor. He is the son of film director Zhang Huaxun. Zhang grew up in Beijing and studied until 1988 at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong, from which he graduated with a degree in Chinese literature. He then went to the Central Academy of Drama, graduating in 1992. Career Zhang Yang uses a realistic style and achieved great recognition for his 1999 independent production ''Shower (film), Xizao'' (; English translation: ''Shower''), which was successful at Chinese box offices and international film festivals. Pusan International Film Festival
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF; ), formerly the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), held annually in Haeundae District, Busan, South Korea, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. New Yorker Films was an independent film distribution company founded by Daniel Talbot in 1965.
