Zhang Yang (director)
Zhang Yang (; born 1967) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and occasional actor. He is the son of film director Zhang Huaxun. Zhang grew up in Beijing and studied until 1988 at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong, from which he graduated with a degree in Chinese literature. He then went to the Central Academy of Drama, graduating in 1992. Career Zhang Yang uses a realistic style and achieved great recognition for his 1999 independent production ''Shower (film), Xizao'' (; English translation: ''Shower''), which was successful at Chinese box offices and international film festivals. This was followed in 2001 by ''Zuotian'' ("Quitting" in its American release). ''Shower'' () is a 1999 Chinese comedy-drama film directed by Zhang Yang and starring Zhu Xu, Pu Cunxin and Jiang Wu. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 14 September 1999 and won the FIPRESCI Prize. Though only the second directorial work by Zhang and the third production of Imar Film, ''Shower'' was selected for numerous film festivals, including San Sebastian Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival, where it received many awards. 2015 Toronto International Film Festival
The 40th annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 September 2015. On 28 July 2015 the first wave of films to be screened at the Festival was announced. Jean-Marc Vallée's ''Demolition'' starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts was the opening night film; '' Mr. Right'' by Paco Cabezas was the closing night film. The year's edition included two new sections called Platform and Primetime. At Platform, twelve films will be screened in front of a jury, with the best film of the program winning the C$25,000 Platform Prize. Tokyo International Film Festival
The is a film festival established in 1985. The event was held biennially from 1985 to 1991 and annually thereafter. According to the FIAPF, it is one of Asia's competitive film festivals and the second largest film festival in Asia behind the Shanghai International Film Festival, as well as the only Japanese festival accredited by the FIAPF. The awards handed out during the festival have changed throughout its existence, but the Tokyo Grand Prix, handed to the best film, has stayed as the top award. Other awards that have been given regularly include the Special Jury Award and awards for best actor, best actress and best director.
