Pseudo Echo are an Australian New wave music, new wave band formed in 1982 by Brian Canham (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Pierre Gigliotti (bass keyboards and bass guitar), and Tony Lugton (keyboards). Later members included Anthony Argiro (drums), Vince Leigh (drums), and James Leigh (keyboards). In the 1980s, Pseudo Echo had multiple Australian top 20 hits with "Listening (song), Listening", "A Beat for You", "Don't Go (Pseudo Echo song), Don't Go", "Love an Adventure (song), Love an Adventure", and "Living in a Dream (Pseudo Echo song), Living in a Dream". Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music historian David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top 40 Singles from 1966, and albums chart from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian record chart, music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. St Ives is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia 18 kilometres north of the Sydney Central Business District in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. St Ives Chase is a separate adjacent area, designated suburb, to the west and north. "Listening" is the debut single from Australian pop group Pseudo Echo. The song was released in November 1983 as the lead single from their debut studio album, ''Autumnal Park'' (1984). The song peaked at number 4 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Following the international success of "Funky Town", a remixed version of "Listening" was released in 1987 for the movie "North Shore" starring Nia Peeples. Background and release Pseudo Echo were formed in Melbourne in 1982 and were performing around Melbourne when music journalist Molly Meldrum attended one of their shows at Melbourne’s ‘Jump Club’. Meldrum was impressed, spoke highly of the group and convinced them to perform on the music TV show ''Countdown'' where they performed a demo version of "Listening" on 28 June 1983. John Punter (born 27 January 1949) is an English and Canadian former record producer and recording engineer. He has worked with many bands and musicians, such as Spoons, Japan, Procol Harum, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Re-Flex, Doctors of Madness, Sad Café and Slade. His career in music spanned over 30 years and many different genres. He is now retired from the entertainment business, and ran a small bar in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. On July 24, 2019, he became a citizen of Canada.
