Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years. Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985, each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. In 1987, the three meeting system was used again, but this time the aggregate points scored by the individual riders were added together to determine the champion. 1988 saw the championship revert to the original format. Sebastian Ułamek
Sebastian Ułamek (born 20 November 1975) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He was a European individual Champion and earned 9 international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Ułamek rode in the Polish leagues for his home club Włókniarz Częstochowa from 1992 until 1998 and then Wybrzeże Gdańsk, Gdańsk from 1999 to 2000 (the 2000 season was in the Ekstraliga (speedway), Ekstraliga). He began to establish himself as one of the leading riders and participated in his first Grand Prix series during the 1998 Speedway Grand Prix season. He made his British league debut in 2000, when riding several times for Wolverhampton Wolves before returning to Poland to ride for WTS Wrocław, Wrocław. Hans Andersen (speedway Rider)
Hans Nørgaard Andersen (born 3 November 1980, in Odense, Denmark) is a former motorcycle speedway rider, who captained the Denmark national speedway team that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006 and 2008. Career summary Andersen was a Danish Junior Champion in 1996 and reached the final of the 1999 Speedway Under-21 World Championship, where he finished fourth. He began his British league career when he joined Poole Pirates for the 2001 Elite League speedway season. He spent 2002 with Poole before securing a move to Peterborough Panthers in 2003. During 2004 and 2005 he rode for Ipswich Witches and was an established member of the Danish national team as well as a regular rider in the Speedway Grand Prix. Charlie Gjedde
Charlie Rasmussen Gjedde (born 28 December 1979 in Holstebro, Denmark) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark, who won the Speedway World Cup with Denmark national speedway team, Denmark in 2006 Speedway World Cup, 2006. He earned 11 caps for the Denmark national speedway team. Career A former Danish Under-21 Champion, Gjedde has represented Denmark national speedway team, Denmark in the Speedway World Cup since 2002 and has appeared as a track reserve in the Speedway Grand Prix series three times. He first rode in Britain for Swindon Robins during the 1998 Elite League speedway season. The following season in 1999, he signed for Coventry Bees on loan from Swindon. Ronni Pedersen
Ronni Pedersen (born 6 October 1974) is a Danish former motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 6 caps for the Denmark national speedway team. Career After winning the 1992 Danish Under 21 Individual Speedway Championship, Pedersen was signed by Peterborough Panthers to ride late in the 1993 British League Division Two season. The following season he rose to third in the Peterborough averages and in his debut season in the top tier of British speedway (the 1995 Premier League speedway season) he averaged 6.53. Pedersen missed the 1996 British season after breaking his leg while playing football. On his return to Britain he only rode a handful of matches over the following two seasons. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three time world champion having won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He has also won the World Cup with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Career Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He stayed at the club until a move to in 1998 to Holstebro, the same year that he made his British league debut with Newcastle Diamonds in the 1998 Premier League speedway season. He topped the League averages which began his journey towards the pinnacle of the sport. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish Speedway First League club Start Gniezno and would go on to ride for ten different Polish sides. Jason Lyons
Jason Rodney Lyons (born 15 June 1970 in Mildura, Victoria) is a former Australian international motorcycle speedway rider. Jason is the son of former rider Rod Lyons. Career history Lyons started his United Kingdom career in 1990, with the Glasgow Tigers in the National League alongside fellow Aussie Shane Bowes from Adelaide. He joined the Belle Vue Aces in 1992 where he stayed for twelve consecutive seasons and where he gained the nickname 'Mr. Belle Vue'. Lyons was a member of the Australian team that won the World Team Cup in 1999 and the team that won the World Cup in 2002. The 2002 Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 2nd Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Cup season. The final took place on 10 August 2002 in Peterborough, England. Andreas Karl Rune Jonsson (born 3 September 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish former international motorcycle speedway rider. He was a member of the Sweden speedway team that won the World Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2015. He earned 26 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Niklas Johan Borje Klingberg (born 6 February 1973) is a Swedish former motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 11 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Klingberg was a member of Sweden team at Speedway World Cups. He was Swedish Champion in 2002. Tony Rickardsson
Jan Tony Sören Rickardsson (born on 17 August 1970) is a Swedish former professional motorcycle speedway rider. He competed in the Speedway World Championships from 1989 to 2006 and won six Speedway World Championship titles in 15 attempts. He earned 43 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. In 2011, Rickardsson was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Career summary Promising talent Rickardsson was born in Avesta, Dalarna County, Sweden.
