Charlie Rasmussen Gjedde (born 28 December 1979 in Holstebro, Denmark) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark, who won the Speedway World Cup with Denmark national speedway team, Denmark in 2006 Speedway World Cup, 2006. He earned 11 caps for the Denmark national speedway team. Career A former Danish Under-21 Champion, Gjedde has represented Denmark national speedway team, Denmark in the Speedway World Cup since 2002 and has appeared as a track reserve in the Speedway Grand Prix series three times. He first rode in Britain for Swindon Robins during the 1998 Elite League speedway season. The following season in 1999, he signed for Coventry Bees on loan from Swindon. In 2003, he was part of the Swindon four that won the Premier League Four-Team Championship, which was held on 27 July 2003, at the Swindon Stadium, Abbey Stadium. Orzeł Łódź (''Eagle Lodz'') is a Polish motorcycle speedway team based in Łódź who currently race in the Polish Speedway First League (1. Liga). The club's full name is H. Skrzydlewska Eagle Lodz. The SGB Championship Fours formerly the Premier League Four-Team Championship is a contest between teams competing in the second tier of speedway in the United Kingdom. Teams are grouped into fours, with one rider from each team in each race. The winners and second place of each group competed for the Championship in the final. History The competition replaced the National League Four-Team Championship (held from 1976 until 1994). It was first staged in 1995 when the Premier League was the highest tier of British speedway because the top two divisions had merged. However, in 1996, it reverted back to a competition for second tier teams in the British Speedway system. From 1997 until 2016 it was known as the Premier League Four-Team Championship. In 2017, the competition changed its name to the SGB Championship Fours. 1998 Elite League Speedway Season
The 1998 Elite League speedway season was the 64th season of the top tier of speedway in the United Kingdom and the second year known as the Elite League, governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB) in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). Summary In 1998, the league decreased to nine teams with the closure of the Bradford Dukes at the end of their championship winning season in 1997. The Peterborough Panthers dropped down to the Premier League but were replaced by the Oxford Cheetahs. The league operated on a standard format without play-offs. Ipswich Witches won the league (their first since 1984) and cup double and were led by the world's leading rider Tony Rickardsson. Speedway Grand Prix
Speedway Grand Prix are a series of stand-alone motorcycle speedway events over the course of a season used to determine the Speedway World Champion. The series started in 1995 replacing the previous format of a single event final. The first winner was Hans Nielsen of Denmark. Event format The format for a Grand Prix changed for the 2007 season onwards. Sixteen riders take part in each Grand Prix and over the course of twenty heats each rider will race against every other rider once. The top eight scorers advance to a semi-final and from each semi-final the 1st and 2nd placed riders will advance to the GP final. In this format all rides counted towards Grand Prix points totals, including the semi-final and final, the maximum points for a single GP is 21 (5x heat wins, semi final win and final win). Denmark National Speedway Team
The Denmark national speedway team are one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History It was not until the emergence of rider Ole Olsen (speedway rider), Ole Olsen that the Danish speedway team came to prominence. Previously the international scene had been largely dominated by Sweden, Poland and Great Britain. When he was joined in the team by Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen, Denmark became a major contender for honours and won the 1978 Speedway World Team Cup in West Germany. The team were the dominant force throughout the 1980s, winning seven Speedway World Team Cup, World Cups, including a record six world titles in a row, between 1983 and 1988. Other key riders during the period were Erik Gundersen, Tommy Knudsen, Jan O. Pedersen and Finn Thomsen. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Speedway Elite League Pairs Championship
The SGB Premiership Pairs (formerly the Elite League Pairs) is a motorcycle speedway contest between the top two riders from each club competing in the SGB Premiership in the United Kingdom. History The Championship was a reincarnation of the British League Pairs Championship, which ran from 1976 until 1987. After the eighth running of the competition in 2011 the Championship was discontinued. However the pairs returned for the top tier once again in 2017 and was called the SGB Premiership Pairs Championship and won by the King's Lynn Stars riders Chris Holder & Robert Lambert. From 2004 until 2011 it was known as the Elite League Pairs because the top league in the UK was called the Elite League at the time. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years. The 2006 Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 6th FIM Speedway World Cup season. The Final took place on 22 July 2006 in the Smallmead Stadium in Reading, Berkshire, England. The tournament was won by Denmark (45 pts) and they beat Sweden (37 pts), host team Great Britain (36 pts) and Australia (35 pts) in the Final. Wybrzeże Gdańsk was a Polish multi-sports club based in Gdańsk, established in 1945, most known for its motorcycle speedway and handball teams. Club has closed in 2005, due to financial problems. Before 2006 speedway season was established new club - Wybrzeże Gdańsk. In handball, new club take part in league matches first time in 2010. The club's colours was red, white, blue. Speedway History 1948 to 1999 The club competed in the inaugural 1948 Polish speedway season, under the name of GKM Gdańsk. The following year the name changed to Związkowiec Gdańsk and competed until 1950. Speedway returned to Gdańsk in 1957 under the name of LPŻ Gdańsk (1957–1959) and Legia Gdańsk from 1960.
