The 2002 Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 2nd Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Cup season. The final took place on 10 August 2002 in Peterborough, England. The tournament was won by Australia national speedway team, Australia (64 points) and they beat Denmark national speedway team, Denmark (58 pts), Sweden national speedway team, Sweden (54 pts), Poland national speedway team, Poland (48 pts) and Czech Republic national speedway team, Czech Republic (36 pts) in 2002 Speedway World Cup Final, the Final. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years. Owlerton Stadium
Owlerton Stadium, also known as Sheffield Stadium, is a purpose-built speedway stadium built in 1929, which hosts greyhound racing five-times a week. The track is in Owlerton near Hillsborough in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Greyhound racing takes place on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings and every Monday and Thursday afternoon. There is a modern glass-fronted Panorama Restaurant accommodating up to 300 people, executive suites, fast food facilities and a number of bars. The stadium is also home to the Sheffield Tigers Speedway team and hosts BriSCA Formula One stock car racing events. Speedway takes place on a Thursday evening and the stadium has a total capacity for 4,000 spectators. It is operated by the A & S Leisure Group, the majority shareholder of which is Dave Allen. Charlie Rasmussen Gjedde (born 28 December 1979 in Holstebro, Denmark) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark, who won the Speedway World Cup with Denmark national speedway team, Denmark in 2006 Speedway World Cup, 2006. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three time world champion having won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He has also won the World Cup with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Career Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He stayed at the club until a move to in 1998 to Holstebro, the same year that he made his British league debut with Newcastle Diamonds in the 1998 Premier League speedway season. He topped the League averages which began his journey towards the pinnacle of the sport. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish Speedway First League club Start Gniezno and would go on to ride for ten different Polish sides. Lukáš Dryml (born 16 April 1981 in Pardubice, Czechoslovakia) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from the Czech Republic. He earned 20 international caps for the Czech Republic national speedway team and represented his nation in the Speedway World Cup. Career Dryml and his older brother Aleš Dryml Jr. were introduced to speedway by their father Aleš Dryml Sr., who was a former international speedway rider. Dryml came to the British speedway leagues in 2000 when he and his brother Ales joined the Oxford Cheetahs for the 2002 Elite League speedway season. Bohumil Brhel (born 10 June 1965) is a Czech former motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 10 international caps for the Czechoslovakia national speedway team and 15 caps for the Czech Republic national speedway team. Career Brhel started racing in the British leagues during the 1990 British League season, when riding for the King's Lynn Stars. He spent six season with them from 1990 to 1995. In 1996, he joined the Oxford Cheetahs from King's Lynn and was part of the four that won the Premier League Four-Team Championship, which was held on 4 August 1996, at the East of England Arena. He returned to King's Lynn the following season and rode with them until the end of the 1999 season. Brhel won the 2001 Individual European Champion title.
