Sigma Sport (retailer)
Sigma Sports is a UK-based retail company that sells bicycles and triathlon equipment. History The company was founded by Ian Whittingham and Jason Turner in 1991. Starting out as a small mail-order business operating from a spare bedroom they opened their first cycle store in Hinchley Wood, Surrey on 4 July 1992. They moved to larger premises in Hampton Wick in 1996 after out-growing the original store. After a number of successful years, they were out-growing their premises again and in 2010 they started work on converting an office building into their next store, opening it November 2011. The store has around 6000 square feet of retail space spread over two floors; there is also a third floor which accommodates a large workshop and a bike fitting studio. Over the years Sigma Sports has been building up its online business which was run from offices and warehousing on an industrial park near Esher. Kingston Upon Thames
Kingston upon Thames (hyphenated until 1965, colloquially known as Kingston) is a town in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, southwest London, England. It is situated on the River Thames and southwest of Charing Cross. It is notable as the ancient market town in which Saxon kings were crowned and today is the administrative centre of the Royal Borough. Hampton Wick
Hampton Wick, formerly a village, is a Thames-side area of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and is contiguous with Teddington and Kingston upon Thames. It is buffered by Bushy Park, one of the Royal Parks of London from Hampton and Hampton Hill. Esher ( ) is a town in Surrey, England, to the east of the River Mole, Surrey, River Mole. Grantham
Grantham () is a market and industrial town in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England, situated on the banks of the River Witham and bounded to the west by the A1 road. It lies some 23 miles (37 km) south of the Lincoln and 22 miles (35 km) east of Nottingham. The population in 2016 was put at 44,580. Eurosport
Eurosport is a group of pay television networks in Europe and parts of Asia. Owned by Warner Bros. Discovery through its international sports unit, it operates two main channels— Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2—across most of its territories, and streams on Discovery+, which superseded Eurosport Player. Originally a joint venture between the European Broadcasting Union and Sky established in 1989, it was briefly shut down in 1991 following complaints by competitor Screensport. The term road bicycle is used to describe bicycles built for traveling at speed on paved roads. Some sources use the term to mean racing bicycle. Triathlon
A triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines included. The word is of Greek origin, from τρεῖς or ''treis'' (three) and ἆθλος or ''athlos'' (competition). The sport originated in the late 1970s in Southern California as sports clubs and individuals developed the sport. This history has meant that variations of the sport were created and still exist.
