Shake (Sam Cooke Song)
"Shake" is a song written and recorded by Sam Cooke. It was recorded at the last recording session Cooke had before his death on December 11, 1964. In the U.S., the song became a posthumous Billboard, Top 10 hit for Cooke, peaking at number seven in February 1965, as well as peaking at number two for three weeks on the Cashbox R&B charts. ''Cash Box'' described it as "a sensational rock-a-twist affair." Other renditions The song was also recorded by Eric Burdon and The Animals, Otis Redding, Ike and Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, and The Supremes on '' We Remember Sam Cooke'' (1965). Redding's version was elected to the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll " by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Samuel Cooke (; January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964) was an American singer and songwriter. Considered one of the most influential soul music, soul artists of all time, Cooke is commonly referred to as the "King of Soul" for his distinctive vocals, pioneering contributions to the genre, and significance in popular music. During his eight-year career, Cooke released 29 singles that charted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, as well as 20 singles in the Top 10 of ''Billboard Magazine, Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, Black Singles chart. Ian Richard Moss (born 20 March 1955) is an Australian rock musician from Alice Springs. He is the founding mainstay guitarist and occasional singer of Cold Chisel. In that group's initial eleven year phase from 1973 to 1984, Moss was recorded on all five studio albums, three of which reached number one on the national Kent Music Report Albums Chart. In August 1989 he released his debut solo album, '' Matchbook'', which peaked at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. ''The BBC Sessions'' (also known as ''BBC Sessions: 1965-1968'') is the second live album by the British rock group Small Faces, released on 15 November 1999 on Strange Fruit Records. It is a collection of recordings the group made for the BBC. While mostly being made up of tracks recorded for ''Saturday Club'' in 1966, it also features three songs recorded for ''Top Gear'' in 1968. Accompanying these tracks are four interviews with Steve Marriott, and one featuring Kenney Jones. Information The album was released on 15 November 1999 on Strange Fruit Records. For the US release, it was issued on Fuel 2000 the following year. Len Fico, president of Fuel 2000 states that a deal was made with the BBC and their partners on Strange Fruit Records. ''Small Faces'' is the debut album of Small Faces, released in May 1966 by Decca Records. It includes the hit singles "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" and "Sha-La-La-La-Lee". The album was well received by music critics and was popular with the public, rising to number 3 on the UK albums chart remaining at the top for several weeks. It also reached number 8 in Finland. Small Faces were an English Rock music, rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966. ''Ready Steady Go!'' (or ''RSG!'') was a British rock/pop music television programme broadcast every Friday evening from 9 August 1963 until 23 December 1966. It was conceived by Elkan Allan, head of Rediffusion TV. Allan wanted a light entertainment programme different from the low-brow style of light entertainment transmitted by ATV. The programme was produced without scenery or costumes and with a minimum of choreography and make-up. Allan recruited a fellow journalist, Francis Hitching, as producer. Hitching became a major figure in light entertainment in the 1960s. Robert Fleming was the first director, followed by the documentary director Rollo Gamble, then Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Daphne Shadwell and Peter Croft. The Monterey International Pop Festival was a three-day music festival held June 16-18, 1967, at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. The festival is remembered for the first major American appearances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Who, and Ravi Shankar, the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin, and the introduction of Otis Redding to a mass American audience.
