The Rhein Fire are an American football team in Düsseldorf, Germany, which plays in the European League of Football since it was added as an expansion team during the 2022 ELF season. Rhein fire won the ELF championship game in 2023 and 2024. History On 25 September 2021, the Rhein Fire was announced as the third expansion and 11th overall team to play in the European League of Football beginning in the 2022 season. The team would be taking the identity of the former NFL Europe team, after the league reached an agreement before the 2021 season with the NFL for the naming rights. In the 2022 pre-season, the management announced that the former NFL Europe Rhein Fire head coach Jim Tomsula would also be the first head coach of the Rhein Fire in the European League of Football. Rhein Fire (NFL Europe)
The Rhein Fire were a professional football team in the NFL Europe, formerly the World League of American Football. Established in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1995, the franchise resurrected the name of the former Birmingham Fire team which was active during the 1991–1992 WLAF seasons. History The team was based in Düsseldorf (and early on the team was occasionally referred to in the U.S. as the Düsseldorf Fire), playing at the Rheinstadion until 2002. After the demolition of the Rheinstadion, the team moved to nearby Gelsenkirchen and played at Arena AufSchalke for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. 2025 European League Of Football Season
The 2025 ELF season is the fifth season of the European League of Football, a professional American football league based in Europe. Sixteen teams from nine countries will participate. The season starts on May 17, 2025, and will conclude with the ''ELF Championship Game'' in the MHPArena Stuttgart, Germany on September 7, 2025. Format The 16 teams are divided into four divisions of 4 teams. Each team plays 12 games during the regular season, six in the division and two games versus one from each other division. The 2023 Rhein Fire season is the second season of the new Rhein Fire team in the European League of Football from Düsseldorf, Germany. The franchise is building upon a solid previous season, missing the play-offs slightly. For this season, the Fire will compete in the new Western Conference with its rivals Cologne Centurions and Frankfurt Galaxy. The 2022 Rhein Fire season was the inaugural season of the new Rhein Fire team in the European League of Football from Düsseldorf, Germany. For this season, the franchise played their home games in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg near to its headquarter.
