2023 Rhein Fire Season
The 2023 Rhein Fire season is the second season of the new Rhein Fire team in the European League of Football from Düsseldorf, Germany. The franchise is building upon a solid previous season, missing the play-offs slightly. For this season, the Fire will compete in the new Western Conference with its rivals Cologne Centurions and Frankfurt Galaxy. Preseason After the 2022 post-season, the franchise announced the departure of former general manager Patricia Klemm for personal reasons and presented Tom Aust, former public relations manager of the old Rhein Fire. Another big change in the coaching staff was the hire of the former Barcelona Dragons head coach Andrew Weidinger as the new offensive coordinator. Jim Tomsula
James Andrew Tomsula (born April 14, 1968) is an American football coach who is the head coach for the Rhein Fire of the European League of Football (ELF). Serving as a defensive coach throughout his career, Tomsula has also been the head coach for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of Homestead. Attending Catawba College, Tomsula played defensive end from 1987 to 1990, after transferring from Middle Tennessee State University after the 1986 season. At Catawba College, he made 109 tackles in two seasons. Coaching career Catawba College Tomsula began his coaching career as a strength and conditioning coach at Catawba College in 1989. MSV-Arena, currently known for sponsorship purposes as the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, is a football stadium in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, built in 2004. 2022 Rhein Fire Season
The 2022 Rhein Fire season was the inaugural season of the new Rhein Fire team in the European League of Football from Düsseldorf, Germany. For this season, the franchise played their home games in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg near to its headquarter. Preseason After signing multiple coaches, the newly founded franchise announced the signing of their first player Sven Breidenbach for the 2022 season. In the following, the team planned to organise an invitational combine for December 18, 2021. In the 2022 preseason the management announced that former NFL Europe Rhein Fire head coach Jim Tomsula will also be the first head coach of the Rhein Fire in the European league of Football. The Rhein Fire are an American football team in Düsseldorf, Germany, which plays in the European League of Football since it was added as an expansion team during the 2022 ELF season. Rhein fire won the ELF championship game in 2023 and 2024. History On 25 September 2021, the Rhein Fire was announced as the third expansion and 11th overall team to play in the European League of Football beginning in the 2022 season. The Cologne Centurions are an American football team based in Cologne, Germany, that plays in the European League of Football (ELF). History In March 2021, it was announced that a new franchise in Cologne is one of the eight teams to play in the inaugural season of the European League of Football. The Frankfurt Galaxy is a professional American football team in Frankfurt, Germany, that competes in the European League of Football (ELF). Rhein Fire (NFL Europe)
The Rhein Fire were a professional football team in the NFL Europe, formerly the World League of American Football. Established in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1995, the franchise resurrected the name of the former Birmingham Fire team which was active during the 1991–1992 WLAF seasons. History The team was based in Düsseldorf (and early on the team was occasionally referred to in the U.S. as the Düsseldorf Fire), playing at the Rheinstadion until 2002. Andrew Weidinger
Andrew Weidinger (born July 10, 1982) is an American football coach who is the head coach of the Madrid Bravos in the European League of Football (ELF). Weidinger joined the Bravos after serving two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Rhein Fire in 2023-2024 and one as head coach of the Barcelona Dragons in 2022. Weidinger won back-to-back championships with the Fire and led the Barcelona Dragons to an 8–4 record and their first ever playoff appearance. Weidinger was named the 2022 ELF Coach of the Year for his work with the Dragons and 2023 ELF Assistant Coach of the Year for his work in Rhein.
